Kyle Tucker Tweet (Pope Interview)

So somebody that shoots below 60% from the FT line can blame that on the “system” they play in? You’ll have to explain that to me. Defense is great, but it’s only part of the game.
I always considered Cliff an offensive liability with a completely broken shot mechanic. Could run a great O, and stellar on D…but that shot was gawwwwd awful.

Apologies to anyone who can't access Twitter at the moment, but this is a wall of text.

1. Pope is trying to use the word "passionate" instead of "crazy" – seems like a very intentional pivot.

2. Pope is getting to know Butler. Had to take a quick call mid-interview with his new PG.

3. Pope is a genuinely good dude who didn't want Carr's parents overexerting themselves.

4. The dude handles the pressure of being a local celebrity and legend very well so far.

5. The man is the Energizer Bunny personified. Just keeps going.

I hope he's able to relax for a week and take some time for himself. 🎶They say his pace would kill a normal man.🎵
That monologue from Pope is S.O.L.I.D. G.O.L.D.

None had a worse FT stroke than Wayne Turner. Look how that turned out.

Ulis gets his under grad degree at end of July. Then he will become a Grad Assistant under Calipari at Arkansas. That is as done as a burger that has been left on a fire grill for an hour.
What a waste. Cals coaching tree is a utility pole .

So caveat, in NO WAY am I comparing the achievements of Pope or any UK coach with Phil Jackson, but I do see a little Phil in him in how he thinks about the game, his ability to communicate and just intelligence. He just doesn't feel like someone who will ever get rattled by the moment. I love that in him. I love hearing coaches who can pump you up while at the same time breaking down a game or explaining their strategies in a way that is easy to grasp. Making complex stuff sound simple is a skill not many have.

I trust Pope, but I’ll be surprised if a guy that shot 30% from 3 and 59% from the FT line last year manages to be our starting pg throughout the year. Those are not just poor stats, they are bottom of the bench type of numbers. I see him more as a defensive specialist but we’ll see.
There's more to the story about those numbers but the "more" has already been posted here by myself and others and you'd know those numbers didn't paint an accurate picture if you read or listened to anything outside your own head.

That last part is a direct shot at Cal lol
Yep, "you people are crazy!" It was supposed to be playful banter on Cal's part, but it became more like an accusation and an insult over time. I like that Pope is aware of that. And he's right for most of BBN. It's passion, not crazy. There are some who flirt with crazy for sure, but they're on the fringe. Calipari said he didn't let the criticisms bother him, but he's a liar. As time passed at UK, Calipari came to resent BBN. It sure is good to have a coach who truly loves BBN and cares about the same things.

Moms remember those who are kind to their son. Would our previous coach have made the effort?
It reminds me of the story from UK Football where Schlarman braved an ice storm to go visit Bunchy Stallings, who was holed up at his school with classmates because of the weather. Stallings ended up being one of the best offensive linemen we've had under Stoops.

People pick up on effort. Pope gives that effort.
