Since we are talking about our thoughts on the Pope hire from day 1 here are mine:
From the get go I thought Pope was a better hire than Drew or Pearl, I never really thought Hurley was a serious candidate. Pope exceeded my expectations in how quickly and with the quality of putting together a team. How competitive this team will be remains to be seen.
I believe UK fans had lost context to the college basketball game that other top teams were playing. Calipari's early success and his subsequent utter collapse had left us in a basketball wilderness. We still knew what basketball in Kentucky was supposed to look like but we also knew we hadn't seen it for the last few years ,we also knew that as long as this version of Calipari was here we wouldn't see it again
No matter who took the job there was going to be a period of fan adjustment ,we had become conditioned too much hype and too little production on the court. Pope is a clean start ,where we go from here is anyone's guess.
