KSR video on swing in emotions on Pope hire

Since we are talking about our thoughts on the Pope hire from day 1 here are mine:

From the get go I thought Pope was a better hire than Drew or Pearl, I never really thought Hurley was a serious candidate. Pope exceeded my expectations in how quickly and with the quality of putting together a team. How competitive this team will be remains to be seen.

I believe UK fans had lost context to the college basketball game that other top teams were playing. Calipari's early success and his subsequent utter collapse had left us in a basketball wilderness. We still knew what basketball in Kentucky was supposed to look like but we also knew we hadn't seen it for the last few years ,we also knew that as long as this version of Calipari was here we wouldn't see it again

No matter who took the job there was going to be a period of fan adjustment ,we had become conditioned too much hype and too little production on the court. Pope is a clean start ,where we go from here is anyone's guess.

I was drunk that Thursday night and melted down.
I'll one up you 87. I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison.
I have fanned for UK since the early seventies and the Pitino years were the absolute best hands down. He left for Boston and I respected that but when he returned to Louisville I cursed his soul and only felt disdain for him until he started talking about UK giving Pope a looksee for the UK job. I didn't stop with the disdain but felt almost sorry for him and how things turned out for him. I now am in appreciation mode for Coach Pitino and his UK years after Pope brought him out for BBM and for Coach Pope showing not only his coaching smarts but also what a great person he has turned out to be. Go Cats, Go Pope

Drew seemed to boring. I was a little relieved it wasn’t him.
Hurley is a great coach, but I didn’t think he’d be a good fit here.
Pearl would have worked, but didn’t think UK would hire him.

Pope was on my “That would be really cool, but I can’t imagine UK would hire him just because he hasn’t won in March”.

Billy D— that ship has sailed.

Oates— too many buyout $$$$

I thought it might be Golden, Paris, or maybe Buzz.

When Pope was announced, I was very surprised. I thought it was a gutsy hire. I was a little nervous, and partly because I was for it. “ OK. I like this, but what if it doesn’t work “.
Saw all of the negative online stuff and my heart sank knowing he would need fan support.
The press conference blew me away. Was no longer nervous. Just excited.
The staff hires seemed brilliant. The “Booms”—- so impressed with putting a really good roster together in such a short period.
The nerves came back a little after the BW game. The exhibition against KWC— well same as everyone. As excited about UK basketball as I have been in a very long time.

I don’t know anyone who said they were disappointed when mark Pope was hired. I don’t think message boards or that video are very representative.
