Kriisa and the Jones Fracture:

There is a difference between “healing”and “fixing.”
Regular people go through the healing process which is the body healing the bone while in a cast.

Athletes get it fixed by surgery so it can get good quickly. That bone does have poor blood supply which can slow the process. Most players are ready to go full speed in 6 weeks and start the rehab process to get in full game shape if the bone fuses with no problem.

A fractured jones is no laughing matter. Sounds like it would hurt like hell.
It does, did it the summer going into my junior year of high school. I missed most of soccer season because of it and got back just in time for basketball. But it’s very hard to rush the process.

The only question at this point is will he get a medical redshirt? And if the rules state that he can’t, what are the odds that rule changes over the summer? And finally, if he CAN come back, will he actually want to?

He could come back and play this season...but he wants to try and get a medical redshirt and play somewhere next year...and according to an insider on the premium board...it's not guaranteed he'll play for UK next season...there's some transfer chatter out there.

They should contact David Beckham. He suffered something similar before a World Cup and they did some miracle on him accelerating his healing using oxygen tent and other procedures..so he can play for England. If my memory serves me right, he was able to play in six weeks.

Jordan fractured his navicular bone which is a bone just below the ankle at the base of the foot. Kriisa fractured his metatarsal which is close to the pinkie toe.
I had a Jones fracture back in 81. Football injury. During 3 a days in the late summer. We were doing a volleyball tourney in the mid afternoon practice as a bonus for good summer of work. I went up to spike the ball, came down on one of those wheels on the poles they used to roll out for volleyball nets. I was out that whole year. Was not an easy injury to get over. I missed basketball season as well. By spring the following year I was good to go but would flare up for the next 18 months (weather played a key part of that). I do believe Kerr could probably start shooting and such but doubt he would be able to go 60% this year. If he gets a med redshirt then he will have a good chance to go next year.

I’m good with him as our backup PG next season. I don’t want him to rush back and ruin his career.

So that pushes perry to 3rd string and Lewis to 4th string (or switch them)? I'm assuming we get a quality starting pg via the portal.

Idk how u keep all 4 guys happy. Maybe NIL cures all.

"Right now he anxiously trying to get back into this thing"
That quote from Pope tells me Kerr isn't all in on the medical redshirt.
As far as Lewis goes, I'd personally be disappointed if he couldn't beat out Kerr for the backup PG.
If Kerr was fully healthy and our starting PG where would he rank among SEC starting PG's?
I'd say at or near the bottom.
I've got higher hopes for Lewis.

Recovering from the fracture with regaining cardio capacity are two major obstacles. I’m guessing UK has him doing some type of low impact cardio (swimming, stationary bike), but anything weight bearing is out the window. To take 3 months off and expect game speed would be insane. I know they are young, but it would be a challenge.

I would ideally like to see another Butler type PG from the portal to pair with Lewis (or whoever PG#2 happens to be). I know that's easier said than done, as Butler was a heck of pickup for UK. But that kind of physically strong, tough, "in your grill" defensive PG could really smooth out a lot of the growing pains with Lewis.

This. Again you can tell who has had a bad injury and who hasn’t on this board. Sit around and do next to noth8gn for 6 weeks. Then try and go for a simple walk. Tell me how you feel. At best you’ll be like p, “damn, im a bit worn out.” The human body is robust yet fragile. And that’s doubly true with an athlete. Why do you think Olympians spend ALL their time training years before the Olympics? Because it takes that long to get the body ready for that, at that level. Stop watching medical TikToks that show overnight results. 99% of them are bullshit.

There’s no grand conspiracy going here. Kerr had a major injury. Even with surgery it takes time for the body to heal and recondition. SMH.

I’m not worried about Perry. He will be fine with his role.

Lewis can slide over to the 2 spot. I anticipate him and Johnson playing that spot and Oweh, Noah, and Chandler at the 3. Might add another shooter in the backcourt as well.

PG Portal/Kriisa/Perry
SG Johnson/Lewis/Portal
SF Oweh/Noah/Chandler

With 15 scholarships, we should be able to be three deep at each position.

And judging from this season, that may not be enough. LOL!
