Kobi Simmons pushing back announcement

http://www.aseaofblue.com/2016-bask...ing-decision-date-good-news-kentucky-wildcats

That us to be good for the possibilities of Fox, Monk, and Alkins. Simmons pushing back means we can see if those are in the food before taking Simmons. Don't get me wrong I'd love Simmons but not if it means losing one of the other 3 and frankly, as good as hike is, he'd be my last choice of the 4.
Agree. I don't know where Simmons will end up. It could still be Kentucky. But pushing back his announcement obviously means Simmons is less likely to end up at Kentucky, and Fox is more likely. This happened the same week that Fox announced he will attend BBM, and I doubt that is an unrelated coincidence.

Yeah I would say that he definitely pushed it back for a reason. It's looking like Fox is a Kentucky lean for sure.

This means Simmons is a lock for UK as he is pushing it back so UK can reel in Fox . I'd be shocked if both weren't commitments by the time the season starts in mid November . Monk will come in April or May and Alkins is the odd man out and he goes to St Johns IMO.

Personally I would like Alkins over Simmons, but you could be right. Cal has always gone for the athletic slasher type. But hey I'm sure he knows better than me. He's got a plan in place and this was undoubtedly part of it.

How could anyone take this as anything other than a positive for us?! It seems to me that he's waiting to see who else commits to us before signing with his top choice which hardly anyone argues against the fact that We're his first choice.

You need to slow down with this stuff.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you do this every year. You think that UK is going to sign almost every recruit it seriously pursues, even when there's a potentially huge log jam at a position. The reality is that Cal rarely signs top guys unless there's a clear spot for them. If there's not, he waits until the spring. It just seems highly unlikely that Cal signs Simmons and Fox (in November) with Ulis, Briscoe, Hawkins, Mulder, and Matthews possibly on the roster next year (with 3 of those extremely likely), and Monk (who's been a huge priority for 2 years now) still out there. That's a boatload of scholarships tied up on guards, even if you want to call Matthews/Mulder/Simmons forwards.

Simmons posted on twitter last night info that contradicts what is being reported:

Never Moved Back My Commitment Date. Lol That's Funny.

So you have a case where the kid was posting everything about UK visit on Instagram and then goes silent--dad did all the talking about his visit to UK. Then Dad does interview/more talking and kid is silent, and confusion about what is really taking place regarding his announcement....Fox visiting for BBM......sounds like Dad understands where UK is coming from and being practical or wants his son there as a fan and kid is typical teenager who didn't like that UK views someone else as coveted.

Much ado about nothing regarding recruiting. This will work itself out and if I were a UK fan, I'd be most focused on news of Fox visiting for BBM and fully expect him to be a Wildcat.

If UK or anyone is recruiting me and tells me that they really want me but as a 3rd or 4th option, I'm marking them off my list.
Now, if I had an offer to verbal now, but will have to compete with 2/3 others for pt. I'm in...
But if it's Fox or me, I'm not waiting........
Sometimes, we miss out because of telling (indirectly) someone, we only want you if we can't get someone better.

But we don't really know what Cal told him, do we? Either directly or indirectly.

James Young knew we were recruiting Wiggins and came anyway. Wiggins went to Kansas; Young played well enough for us to earn himself a high draft pick.

Briscoe and Matthews both committed early to this current team, knowing that we were in on a ton of guards.

Some kids want to play with other top guys. Some don't.

Some want guarantees. Others want competition.

Some believe they are the best no matter what. Others feel in the back of their mind that someone else is better.

We don't really know what Cal is saying, or what Simmons is thinking. All we can do is speculate.

But there are recent examples of guys in Simmons' shoes who pulled the trigger early and chose us, even knowing they would likely have company.

If Cal truly wants a kid, he doesn't seem to be shy about accepting an early commitment. But we don't know for sure what Cal wants either.

We do our fair share of hand wringing around here over imaginary scenarios that may or may not be grounded in reality. Put another way, most of the time we are just guessing.

Matt Jones called it, and yet some of you here will still insist that he is not heavily connected with the Basketball program and recruiting.

I don't see how this is good news. What if Fox decides to go somewhere else, Monk decides to stay in Arkansas. Simmons could be bitter about Cal not wanting to accept the offer and chose to play for someone else, maybe even U of L. Kind of like Rondo and UK. I wish they would just take Simmons

You're right. We should probably be petrified that this is the year Cal finally blows it.

I seriously doubt that if Simmons was ready to give UK his commitment, that Cal would put him off and ask him to wait.

Let's just say by some chance that is the case, and Cal has asked Simmons to hold off. There's a good chance that Cal has already taken the circumstances you brought up into account. This isn't his first time, you know.

Not to mention, if Cal truly did refuse Simmons' commitment and ask him to wait (which I think is crazy talk), then you can all but guarantee his other option(s) are 100%.

No way he would risk losing Simmons over a not so sure thing. Again, this isn't his first time.

Exactly This is just like the Young situation where Cal asked James to hold off until the twins committed . i would bet anyone 10 dollars that simmons commits very soon after Fox does. It looks we will get Bridges so the 2 questions left in this year's class are 1. Monk or Alkins at the SG and 2 . who will be the other big man we sign.

He is not heavily connected.
He has a radio show and puts lots of info out there. He is a pawn and is only told what higher ups want him to out out there.
Ain't hard to figure out. Get off his nuts.

This post was directed to those who were inferring that Cal would only take one of the 2 (Fox or Simmons) and that Fox had first refusal. If that were true, I (Simmons) would just eliminate UK and move on..I have no knowledge of this being the case, bot some have voiced opinions as such.....Don't thank that's Cal's method........I think we get both, but not all four mentioned.
..........3 guards and Bridges sounds good.........Jones + Giles or Bolden **************

Looks like jones was wrong. Simmons said he never moved his announcement date back, so that settles that.

No, it doesn't mean that. In recruiting, nothing is ever a sure thing.

I agree, we could get Simmons and Fox, no problem, they are not mutually exclusive.

Fox would play mainly at the 1. Monk primarily at the 2. Simmons mostly at the 3, though he would back up the 1 as well.

If you add in Bridges, then Simmons goes to the bench or if Cal decides to go small, then you put Bridges at the 4. Bridges is still on the perimeter, in the DDMO (with 4 out, 1 in).

I personally want this (being realistic, so no Giles):

Starters
G Fox
G Monk
F Bridges
F Gabriel
F Killeya-Jones

Bench
F Humphries- sixth man.
G Mulder- top backcourt reserve.
G Matthews
F Wynyard
G Hawkins

Fox and Monk are a great duo in the backcourt. Monk can handle the point when Fox is out of the game, with Mulder in at the 2. Matthews provides additional depth at the 2 and 3 spots. Hawkins brings experience if needed, but usually gets spot duty minutes.

Bridges and Gabriel are so well suited to play together. Both have the perimeter skills to play the 3. Bridges has the strength to play the 4. Gabriel has the length to play the 4. They seem pretty interchangeable, which gives us flexibility at those positions.

Killeya-Jones is a good replacement for Labissiere, though not as talented. With Humphries off the bench, we have a banger, he will see starter minutes. Wynyard gives us additional size, but plays limited minutes.

That's my realistic dream team for 2016-17. I think we have a real shot to have that team.

Simmons and Fox can both come to UK with Monk if they want. All three can play together. I'm certain this is obvious to them. It all depends on what Cal is telling them and how he is selling their role at UK.

Put Bridges at the 4. Get Lee to return, or bring in Bolden or Giles and UK is set once again.

We are going to be stacked, regardless. Cal is the best in the business for a reason.

I'd be careful if I was Simmons.....nobody bullies Cal into taking an early commitment that he doesn't wanna take. Last year Carlton Bragg had a ton of interest and ultimately passed because it appeared Cal would not accept an early commitment from him while waiting on more talented players. We all remember Chris Walker and Tony Wroten begging for scholarships and not receiving them. It has been Cal's pattern to wait it out and see what the more talented player does. I will say that it's encouraging that Simmons stated that he doesn't have to play PG in college and finally there is always the wrinkle that Simmons could try to force Cal's hand and announce for UK but we don't have to accept the commitment.

how am I wrong all the time? I rarely make predictions. I'm just stating what could happen. Not what I think is going to happen.

With Mulder and Matthews coming back, along with the very real possibility that Ulis and/or Briscoe come back, there is no way we get three more perimeter players. We also will probably have all three of Lee, Humphries, and Wynyard back, so getting multiple front court players is unlikely as well.
