Kevin Nash on hitting his coach in Lexington

Not a chance in hell. Fans could get away with a lot more wild and woolly stuff back in those days. The rules have changed.

If our fans threw oranges at UT today it would be treated like a shameful controversy. There'd be all sorts of editorials and ESPN talking heads condemning our awful behavior; youtube clips would be identifying the "offenders" and demanding they be severely punished or prosecuted; UT fans would talk about boycotting Rupp until our fans learned to behave, etc. And if we brought back the bourbon barrel today we'd get bashed for promoting alcoholism.

But back then that stulf was mostly just considered funny rival fan stuff, and nobody got their panties in a bunch over it. We've become a far more sensitive society about those sorts of things, always looking for something to spin into the newest PC controversy.

Oh I absolutely 100% agree with you. I was being sarcastic about the oranges. Now a days you can't boo a player from an opposing team without someone casting an eye at you.

Then there were the infamous tennis balls flying onto the court when Florida played Vandy that cost them the game....Dwayne Schintzius ....

I think Nash was a frosh or soph and kinda did a cheapshot on Lee,you didn't do that in 1978 to James Lee power bomb or not:chairshot::)
I remember that as the game was played on one of the absolute worst nights in Lexington, weather wise. Lots of people stayed away that night and my roommate and I sat in someone else's vacant seats at mid-court. Not only did Nash take a cheap shot at James Lee but Howard Wood did the same thing to Mike Phillips.

I did a quick search for a video but couldn't find one. I did see his numbers against UK on bigbluehistory.net and Nash had some decent outings vs UK. Ended up with a 4-3 record against Kentucky. We were able to give him a L in his final game as a Vol though ;)
February 2, 1980 at Rupp. I was there.

is this Rick Pitino?

I remember watching him as the starting center on some pretty good UT teams around 79 and 80. But I believe Devoe kicked him off right before his senior season because of all his off-court misbehavior.
lol , well after reading this thread I think I know what off-court behavior Devoe had a problem with .

Really? Dear God, stop the presses!!!!

Honestly, why do people, in any topic about wrestling, feel the need to chime in that it's fake?

Ron, why is that?

Lol, because it is fake and someone said "he's one of the best ever." At what, busting fake blood on his forehead and yelling gibberish into microphone?

People who enjoy wrestling above the age of 18 are a special breed. Rooting for guys who inject steroids and act like morons on live TV! Whoopie!

Attention whore?

Don’t watch any movies either because they’re fake

Sorry, I guess you are one of the special breed? No offense, I just don't get it.

Movies tend to have good actors too, a plot, a story, a point, a direction, etc. Plus they don't generally invovle steroided men running around in panties.

Yeah, you’re an attention whore. Ignore and argue with yourself

When the outcome of a "contest" is decided by someone other than the contestants, then dictated and choreographed to be presented as an entertainment product, that is not a sporting event.
But it’s not “fake” which is what he said. But I’m not going into this rabbit hole with someone who enjoys being difficult.

The post I responded to was you telling someone who said "I could be wrong, but it's not a sport ", then you said, "yeah, you're wrong". Not being difficult, just accurate.

Actually there's a few photos of him playing against UK, although not really showing his face.

Okay, new question.

This 32 guy, whom google tells me is Reggie Johnson, how high is this vertical reach?

I see he's one of the greatest UT players in history, played some in the NBA, and here his hand appears to run the risk of banging against the ceiling in the arena.

I know it's a low angle, but he's way in the background from a 6'11 guy.

Did he call himself Big Sexy then too?
We did freshman orientation together because of our names (M in my case, N in his). Never had a class with him but our paths crossed often. He did the rounds of frats for the free booze (so did I), but he thought he was a ladies man. The one player I actually interacted with was Howard Wood. Dude’s actual first name was James...but he preferred Howard. Go figure

I mentioned that to some of my fiance's family who were glued to a TV at a family party. They looked at me as if I were a communist spy. I'm surprised I was let into the family. I figured it out at the age of 10 when one of the wrestlers got his opponent in the infamous "belly hold" causing him to writhe in pain. I figured twisting the guy's stomach fat couldn't possibly hurt that bad.
