I was bored at work and came across this podcast featuring Kevin Nash. He recalls a game where the Vols were playing Kentucky and he hit his coach. For those interested in hearing it, he begins talking about the game at Kentucky at the 15:00 minute mark in the video.

I did a quick search for a video but couldn't find one. I did see his numbers against UK on bigbluehistory.net and Nash had some decent outings vs UK. Ended up with a 4-3 record against Kentucky. We were able to give him a L in his final game as a Vol though ;)

Anybody got Tenn vol picture of Nash? I'd kill to see it and make fun of his big dumb orange ass.
I had no idea he was a Vol when he wrestled.

The fans threw oranges at him? [laughing] That was a pretty good story, but I doubt that part is true.

I wish we could find a video to find out. It would be pretty comical to see Kevin Nash getting hit upside the head with an orange at Rupp [laughing]

Not too many that I could find

I'm pretty sure it is true, stuff like that did happen back in the day, seems like he and James Lee had a run in somewhere along the way and Lee backed him down or chased him off the court, maybe in Knoxville? Any other old timers remember this?

Must've been before Nash known about the power bomb

Rumor is that Nash was plowing Don DeVoe's wife back in his playing days.

Seriously, have heard this from several older Vol fans.

In the Memorial Coliseum days, the student section always threw oranges during the Tennessee and Florida games. For the most part, the orange-throwing stopped when the games moved to Rupp Arena, because we were too far away from the court.
I hit Tennessee Asst. Coach Stu Aberdeen right on top of his shiny bald head with a really rotten orange in 1975 as he ran out of the tunnel from the locker room. No regrets whatsoever, the obnoxious little SOB deserved it.

Okay I give. How exactly does one become a great wrestler? Create their own shtick? Take acting lessons?

Did Randy Savage simply come up with "The Macho Man" in between injections?

That's an awesome story. I love when Nash says he open hand smacked him in the head and Austin asks

"So what'd he do, did he sell it?"

Such a wrestler question [roll]

The answer to your question can be found on the WWE Network on a show called Breaking Ground. There you will find out what it takes to become a great wrestler.

Ron, why is that?

If you see what I quoted when I said that, you'll notice I was quoting a post that said "I can't believe he went on to be a hall of fame wrestler." I've never heard it referred to as that, and the context and tone made it sound like "Man can you believe this basketball player went on to become a world class wrestler??". That's how I took it at least. I was then confused, and I didn't see it that way. I didn't see this basketball player all of a sudden switch sports and become amazing at another sport with completely different skill sets, but rather a bball player that went on to choose another profession and become an entertainer. That was my justification for saying what I said, and I hope you can now understand why I typed what I typed.

Never knew big sexy was a baller

I remember watching him as the starting center on some pretty good UT teams around 79 and 80. But I believe Devoe kicked him off right before his senior season because of all his off-court misbehavior.

LMAO!!

My mom (bless her kind hearted soul) used to get all fired up when they would show Stu having a temper tantrum fit on the sidelines, jumping up and down holding that clipboard. For whatever reason (well, I guess there were some good ones) he would just totally piss her off. Good memories.......

Do you think we can bring back throwing oranges at UT? We need to bring that and the bourbon barrel back.

Not a chance in hell. Fans could get away with a lot more wild and woolly stuff back in those days. The rules have changed.

If our fans threw oranges at UT today it would be treated like a shameful controversy. There'd be all sorts of editorials and ESPN talking heads condemning our awful behavior; youtube clips would be identifying the "offenders" and demanding they be severely punished or prosecuted; UT fans would talk about boycotting Rupp until our fans learned to behave, etc. And if we brought back the bourbon barrel today we'd get bashed for promoting alcoholism.

But back then that stulf was mostly just considered funny rival fan stuff, and nobody got their panties in a bunch over it. We've become a far more sensitive society about those sorts of things, always looking for something to spin into the newest PC controversy.
