Ron Mercer was a true 2/3 hybrid. Time will show that Knox is a combo forward. Knox is at least 3 inches taller than Mercer, but not as skilled. And I'm not suggesting that Knox isn't skilled. Knox has elite skills. But Mercer, skill-wise, was a special player like we see once a decade. As good as he is, I'm not even sure Knox is as good as Vanderbilt.

Heights lasted for athletes are often inaccurate. I have stood next to Ron Mercer, and he is not 6-7. I am about 6-4, and Mercer is no more than an inch or 2 taller than me. I have watched Knox play several times, and he is taller than some other players commonly listed as 6-8. Knox is very long. I believe he is closer to the height I mentioned.Try 1" taller. They're almost identical in size.
Might as well say he looks a lot like a Kevin Durant type of player or maybe Elgin Baylor. Knox is Knox he is not this player or that player.
What is going to happen is the people singing his praises and putting these expectations on him will be the ones blasting him and cutting him down when he isn't as good as these "comparisons".

That's odd, I've checked about 10 different sites (Boston Celtics, NBA Draft, etc).and they all have Mercer listed as 6'7 .
Every tall SF will have similarities to Mercer but their are much better comparisons than Mercer. Mercer was quicker and just plain better at the same stage in their career. Mercer wasn't still transitioning to the wing at this stage, he had already been a wing as late as 7th grade (that's the first time I watched and played against him and he could play the wing at that point)

Yep. You have some fans on here that do that every year, last year Wenyen was Tayshaun, year before Skal was a little. It like AD, before that and before that and before that. Let Knox prove on the college level who he is before placing high expectations only to tear him down , like Wenyen, when he has a bad game or two
I like the comparison he reminds me of Mercier as well, moves like him IMO.

Why do you think us fans do that? It's because we haven't seen them play and we're mentally trying to get an image of their game. It's pure speculation. Pretty simple.
A couple of things stand out for me with Knox:
His elbow jumper is lethal and Booker-sequel. Shoots it with such ease.
The other was a couple of outlet full length passes he threw. Impressive for me at a small clip.
Looks very special to me in this early stage and will look dynamite in UK blue.

Mercer might have had the best mid range game of any UK player in the past 30 years.Not too many young players had/have that in their arsenal.
Knox and Tatum are very very similar players . Tatum is a bit faster but knox is a better run jump type if you know what I mean. Mercer is a decent comparion but Mercer was a 2 guard in a SF body while Knox is a true 3 .
No freakin way Knox only weighs 205. I weigh 205 at 6'1 (my body fat is around 17% though). Knox's is at least under 12% but likely lower. Still, Harrison twins were listed like 215 their freshman year (id say they were closer to 200 though). Knox is probably about 225 id guess.
You musta been on some travelin squad, I think I heard you mention you played against, Shaq, Kobe, MJ, KD, Jerry West, Tiny Archibald, Dr J, and a few more I can't recall. And, I believe the only great you did not play against was LeBron. I'm lookin at you.
I saw Mercer play 15 times in high school. He was 6-5 and1-2. A tweener type. Knox is more if a Prince Tatum type. Maybe not that good of a shooter.
Most people won’t. There were many comparisons between Fox and John Wall. When Fox struggled at times last year, most UK fans on this board weren’t denying Fox his potential as an elite level point guard.
Knox is a top 10 guy, but he’s not Andrew Wiggins in terms of hype. I think most of us know he’s a OAD, but only the delusional will expect much more than 13 to 15 points/game from him, and probably even less if Diallo comes back.
It really isn't unrealistic to compare Knox to Mercer. He may or may not end up that good but Mercer was a high level recruit and Knox is too. It's not like he compared him to Julius Erving.
