Kevin Knox Breaks Down 5 Schools Left

And you know this how????
This is what we know

This is what we know about Cam Johnson... A 6'8" guard who has played in the ACC for 2 years and has done very well in doing so. Averaged 12 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1 steal a game. Shot 81% FT and 42% from 3.
Those are outstanding stats for a guard who is on a team sharing shots with multiple other players. Not only is he a proven player but he is a guy who can switch out on D with his height and length. Stats show he is not a ball hog jacking up shots and shares the basketball playing within the team concept.

When both him and knox steps foot on campus Johnson is automatically the better player. Knox is looking for the end of the year to put his name in the draft so your not going to be getting a lot out of him.
This is what we know about Knox's production. 0 0 0 0 hasn't done anything or proven anything. The odds are of him coming in and averaging 15 a game is low and his 3pt shooting in HS as a senior is 35% as a Junior it was 33%. That is considerably lower than Johnson. Knox got a lot of his points in HS down low against much smaller guys. that isn't going to happen in college.
I'll take Johnson any day, every day and twice on sundays.

The better player will be the one the plays for Cal, provided he listens and buys into what Cal is telling them to do. Make no mistake about it, there is no guarantee that Cam either plays, or plays as well as he has. UK is different, and will face everybody's best shot. I watched several highlight videos on Johnson, and while they are impressive in that he shoots from anywhere, and in the video, makes them all. But none of those were against any kind of defense. Mulder made a lot of open 3s before he came to UK too. He had impressive numbers, but never produced anything like that at UK. Harrow 2as the same way, pretty good as a freshman in the ACC, nothing at UK, then looked like an AA at Georgia St. People thinking Johnson can put up the same kind of stats here are likely to be real disappointed. We have seen a lot of kids Crack under the Lexington pressure over the years.

We have ten scholarship players.

11. Bam
12. Bamba
13. Cam J.
14. M. Smith
15. Knox
We are going to have a hech'a team year after next.

FYI If dUKe signs Knox and Bamba, to go with Carter and Trent: look-out.

Johnson's not starting next year either way, and he's likely a 12 to 15 minute/game guy even if he does come to UK.

I don't think so. 3 year ACC player, can defend, sharp shooter, 6'8....

If we only plan on playing him 12 minutes he won't come here. It would be a huge loss. We need Johnson way, way more than Knox. It fits our roster. We need "needs", not a pile of studs at one position.

Totally agree. Not sure I will even be mad if he goes elsewhere even if we don't get Johnson.

Not sure if you are serious or saying this tongue in cheek. I assure you that playing in the ACC is a slight step above playing in Juco. Harrow was a head case dating back to HS. Harrow was talented but folded up like a cheap chair when the lights come on. Johnson not that I have seen has done such a thing.
If you have something on Johnson being a head case or something please let us in on the details.

So you’re making a case that it was obvious to fans that Bolden was playing games, but we’re to believe Calipari had no clue that Bolden was walking the tight rope between Duke/UK?

I can’t think of many UK fans who ever felt overly confident about Bolden. Duke was always in play. I’m not sure how Calipari could have been blinded by confidence in landing Bolden, which was a point some posters made in this thread.
Most Duke fans were shocked that Bolden chose us

Yes, I was serious. The pressure that comes with playing for UK, and the pressure of playing at Pitt are completely different. So is the expectations. Now, I'm not saying he won't be as good, he very well could be. But we all have to admit that the lights are brighter at UK, than a middle of the pack ACC school.

And by the way, my preference would be Johnson as well. But I also know that there is no guarantee that he will put up near the stats in terms of shooting percentage and such as he did at Pitt.

This board is building up Cameron Johnson like it did Matt Pilgrim years ago. Johnson was a 2 star recruit coming out of high school and only the third leading scorer on a mediocre Pitt team. (Would you be interested in the third leading scorer from Ol' Miss?)

He may be a good addition to the team, but I seriously doubt he will start or play more that 12 minutes a game if he comes to U.K.

Between Johnson and Knox, I would take Knox all day long. And I believe those who say otherwise are doing the sour grapes thing, thinking we won't get Knox. (Unfortunately, we probably won't but don't kid yourself into believing Johnson is a better player than Knox.)

Nothing wrong with role players and depth.

Agree. That's what I implied in the middle paragraph. Johnson IMO would be a role player; Knox will be a stud.

I haven't liked his shot in these games, but that's not a great indicator. We've had guys who didn't shine in them and were great for us. Nothing seems to be saying Knox is coming anyway, so it's probably moot.

Not sure I agree that one of Vanderbilt or Knox would be coming off the bench.

I could see the following line up as very potent.

Green
Diallo
Knox
Vanderbilt
Bamba

I can almost guarantee Cal loves the idea.

Tough PG
Rim protector
3 long wings to defend and multi-skilled.

Im not confident in Knox but the more and more him and his dad talk about the NBA, the more I realize Cal still has a great shot.

Bwahahahahahahahaha!!! It appears that limb I went out on was a big a$$ branch! I love the ability of Cal to pull off the impossible on a routine basis when it comes to recruiting. Sadly enough we'll still have to deal with the Debbie Downers who will turn an unbelievable recruiting coup into a negative by stating that Knox to UK will cost us Diallo. My response to that is :uzi::chairshot:

On a side note, please disregard any previous posts of mine about Johnson coming to UK. :joy: Then again, never doubt Cal when it comes to recruiting.

The bigger point is that some UK fans think this is actually true for Kevin Knox/Cam Johnson recruitment, in that it might cost us Johnson.

This assumes a massive point, namely, that Calipari is naïve enough to think he has a real shot on a kid who is seen by virtually everyone to be favoring at least two schools ahead of Kentucky. Generally speaking, these types of assumptions are ridiculous and place people on the periphery (like us fans who can't even get quotes right) in a position of "knowing" something a man who is actually in the primary spot of seeing the entire landscape (like Cal and his staff) and relegating him to a position of naivety and recruiting blindness.

Cal knows what's going on. We need to stop the notions of Knox potentially costing UK Johnson. Ultimately, we know less than 5% of what Cal presently knows, and that's being generous.

SOS, you nailed the fact that too many fans/posters take the stance that they know more than the man in the driver's seat. Calipari has and always will be the one person who is like the Great Oz sitting behind the curtain seeing what others aren't able to even catch a glimpse of. Whether it be in the form of losing a game or something as small as missing out on a recruit, too many times fans make irrational uneducated decisions and blame Cal for the supposed undoing of UK.

Whether it's not calling a timeout, going all in on a recruit who's allegedly a lock to our arch nemesis, or allowing a player to enroll early and sit the bench, I can finally say that I completely trust Cal's judgement. Why? Because he doesn't put the team, university, fans or himself first, but instead puts the individual kid first. As I get older I'm realizing that it takes a lot to keep oneself from living a selfish life. While I want to win the NC every freaking year I'm glad we have a coach who isn't afraid to go against the social norm of selfishness by protecting a kid's best interest. In the end, I believe karma will be on Cal's side and that the BBN will reap the benefits more than they ever could've dreamed of. In all honestly, maybe we're already starting to reap those benefits and are too selfish to see it happening right in front of our faces.

Go Big Blue!!!
