ESPN's football power index has some numbers for where we sit this season...
-Overall Ranking: #38 Nationally (#44 Last Year, #28 in 2021)
-Offensive Efficiency: #32 Nationally (#69 Last Year, #19 in 2021)
-Defensive Efficiency: #44 Nationally (#20 Last Year, #41 in 2021)
-Strength of Schedule: #47 Nationally (#16 Last Year, #32 in 2021)
-Remaining Strength of Schedule: #13 Nationally
Notable FPI Remaining:
-Alabama #5 with the #8 Strength of Schedule
-USCjr. #43 with the #4 Strength of Schedule
-Louisville #18 with the #81 Strength of Schedule
Rankings of Our Opponents we already played:
L-@ Georgia #6
L-Tennessee #14
L-Missouri #24
W-Florida #39
W-@ Miss State #50
W-@ Vandy #98
W-Ball State #118
W-Akron #132
Offense thus far looks massively improved. Defense has slipped back to the 2021 level, but with the 6 key starters we lost it should've been expected but we looked past it. But it does look balanced. Still time to improve...a strong close and then we really are closer to the 2021 team
Overall....it's not bad...but it's disappointing to think what could've been with 1 more win right now. I think winning 2 of the next 3 will make it look like a more solid resume. A team that wasn't ready for the big games, but was a solid team. Win at SC and that's a .500 SEC record. Win at Louisville and it's a solid win over a ranked team to close the year 8-4.
A 9-4 record would mean we probably will be ranked in the final polls...and we'll go into 2024 with momentum...returning a large core of the team...mainly the in the trenches at OL/DL, the entire secondary, and all of our wideouts will have another year in the Coen system. That's usually the makeup of a strong team when they return quite a bit of production. You get a solid transfer QB...then you really feel like you're in great shape going into 2024.
A 6-6 finish and....well yeah there's going to be some discussion going into 2024 about major changes needed at the DC position. Matt House is about to be thrown out at LSU (which I don't think is his fault IMO), Dean Hood might want to leave Murray, and Clink will be looking to leave Michigan...just sayin'
