<< Kentucky Vs Vandy Game Thread >>

I'm certainly not saying Noah is ready for big minutes or anything, but is Almonor a better rebounder than Noah? I would have definitely thought so, but over the course of watching him this season I'm not so sure.

Hate to say it but it’s time to get back to the drawing board for Pope. Our bigs handle the ball way too much for their skill
level. Something different has to be done to initiate the offense. May be time to just go small. And it’s time to implement the 1-3-1 as our primary defense. We can’t stay in front of anybody and no one protects the rim.

Not executing on offense like they did earlier in the season. Just awful on defense. Sloppy with the ball. That's a great recipe for a L.
Where has all that ball movement went that they were putting up 100 points a game went? Now it’s just ISO ball, you would think Cal was calling the offense! Pope definitely didn’t learn the art of teaching defense from his mentor Pitino!

Maybe the AD at Vandy made the better hire. This guy was in the same position as Pope, he just had a month longer but probably less money. This is a theme when UK plays an unranked team they come in lack luster.
Vandy plays like they had a plan coming in. They play with fire and are aggressive on defense. We look like Pope woke up super late for work. Unprepared. Don't play defense. Don't go after loose balls, and loosely hold onto balls resulting in tied possessions. Selfish play by the PG, guys unwilling to set screens or run the baseline.

This game has exposed our need for athletes more than any game this season. I underestimated Vandy's athleticism. They are guarding us tougher than any team we've played thus far.

That’s the way I see it - to much pressure on the bigs to handle when team presses up. Carr is soft as shit also so not sure he helps much but I would go small & zone and limit the drives and hope to run better offense without Garrison & Williams clogging crap up

I'm sorry, but Butler looks just fine, Oweh looks just fine, why the F is he playing Chandler, Noah and Perry?
They can't play in this game and Pope just lost the game running with those guys.
Exactly this^^^^. Worst decision Pope’s made all year. Absolutely lost this game with those crazy lineups the last 8 minutes. Completely baffling for a guy as smart as Pope to have this level of a brain fart - but he did.

It’s time to have the discussion that we’re not really a great shooting team. We can go on streaks, but maintaining even 35% in a one game scenario can be a struggle for us.

Defense, rebounding and effort have all been very lacking today.

We’ve got to have another way to manufacture looks at the basket because they’re on to the high post stuff.

This one is legendary. This take needs to be kept for years to come. Omg LOL

Teams that have the ability to really get in our face and not let us run our actions have destroyed us this year, Vandy appears to be in that same mold.

I mean, when we have the same consistent issues over 5+ game period, that is on coach. Pope, please fix it. If they're not listening, take their ass out
Here’s the thing. Our fix is not a scheme or x and o thing, it’s a simple matter of playing more aggressive defense and you are right, that’s dead on coach to get that done. Coaches have to recognize we’re paying way too soft in the ball defense. I don’t care if we have the slowest worst athletes in the country he HAS to get these guys closing the distance on their man and playing more physical and aggressive on that side of the ball. Not sure if coach has that me mentality in him but if not we’re in trouble

From the Vanderbilt perspective I have no doubt about the fact that your team will come back in the second. It's been the pattern of almost all our SEC games -- either we get a nice lead and end up in a close game or get way behind and close the gap. Start of the 2nd is usually when the comeback happens.

Not much I can complain about though. At our peak we look really good.

Horrible effort for 50-50 balls especially rebounds
Has UK really shown that it's going to get it's share of 50/50 balls at any point this season? I don't think so, and it's been a pet peeve of mine. I think, for whatever reason, this is a group of players that ball watch consistently. Whether it's 50/50 balls or rebounds.

I expect to see a short bench this half with the starters getting the bulk of the run. I think Pope was hoping for some output from the bench but there is definitely some liabilities. We miss Carr’s size and versatility at the 4.

Our bigs have been atrocious handling the ball. Garrison has 4 TO's. When other teams grab push, and get into our chest, they're worthless.

Oh no comprehend just fine. Your first line was “not consistent reffing”. Can’t walk it back now.

They need to toughen up and just play. This team has become softer as the year has progressed. I think that’s the problem.
Very little tenacity. At one point near the end of the half there were two Vandy guys fighting each other for an offensive board with no UK player involved. And then it came loose and went out of bounds off UK. I almost turned the game off.

I get Carr is out but do we need this lineup in there at once?
Agreed

I have no idea what Pope was doing with the lineups in the first half. Hope he explains it postgame.

Second, it's one thing to just get beat because of how well the other team is playing. However, the Cats are showing no intensity and little effort. Looks like the OSU game all over again.

Very concerning that this keeps happening under Pope. Very concerning.
Agreed … common theme .. WTH are we doing witness dog shit lineups ??

It’s because there is film on UK. The other coaches are adjusting and Pope isn’t. The offense having to run through Amari and the high post is ridiculous. Originally teams played off him daring him to shoot. Gave him space to pass. Now they know to press up knowing he has zero handles and is EXTREMELY weak with the ball. Butler can drive but no ability to finish. Robinson occasionally can drive but cannot finish because he is terrified of contact.

The lack of finishing means nobody leaves a shooter so not spot up threes.
