Let's see if the bullpen can keep from giving South Carolina any hope for the weekend.

I wonder if Tolbert will be back in. That cheek was swelling up big time. Might affect his vision if it swells more.

Marshall Gei getting one on a rope. Not sure they'll call that a hit, but glad to see him get on base after putting a charge into one.

They did call it a double.

0.543 OBP for this game. Still had 10 LOB. Great for Gei to get an AB, hit, and then get to catch an inning.

Schaenzer getting hit pretty hard. I hope he can get through this inning to keep everyone else available for the weekend.

Looks like Lewis at SS, ARod at second, Gei catching, and Kessler at third. Not sure there are any outfield changes.

South Carolina batted 0.212 for the game with an OBP of 0.212. We had 0 walks and 0 HBP's. Impressive show by the pitching staff. Schaenzer got hit pretty solidly but gave up no runs. I'd say it was one of his best outings of the year.

Has to be his best. He's struggled all year.

The great thing is that we did this against the USC ace. The rest of the starters are a big step down from Hill. They don't always win with Hill, but he's not really apt to give up 6 earned in short outings.

We won last year's opener something like 19-2 down in Columbia, only to have USC come back the next day and almost shut us out.
Just hope we don't get too big headed and realize it was only ONE game of three.
Was thinking the same thing the same thing last night watching the game.

Good win. Hjelle was sharp. Good to see Pompey come alive. Need to follow it up with another W tonight (weather permitting).

It was great to be at the Cliff instead of watching it on the internet. My wife and I really enjoyed the game and will be at Sunday's game also. I wish we could be at the Saturday game but we have dinner plans while we are in Lexington.

I noticed that USC stayed with Lomas, keeping him in for 3 innings, even though he gave up 6 runs because they wanted to save the bullpen for Saturday and Sunday. If it had been a closer game, they would have yanked him out and gone deeper into the pen. Oh, well, I guess we won't see him anymore. I don't like to watch sidearm pitchers anyways.

Our lefties and switch hitters would love to see Lomas again. They were feasting.
