Might as well start the season off right, with a little preview.

UK gets Miami (OH) for the first game. Speaking of first games... this is the first time UK will open with a home game since 1983. Game time is Tuesday at 4:00pm. The Redhawks will come into KPP with a 3-0 record as they swept Jacksonville on the road. Despite this record, make no mistake... this is not a very good baseball team we will be facing tomorrow. As evidence... they hit just .218 over the weekend and still won all three games. They struck out a whopping 36 times. So, pitching and defense carried them this past weekend. In fact, they had 18 walks over the three games while giving up just 5. That made a significant difference for them. Also, they had 0 errors while Jacksonville had 5.

It is hard to guess who will pitch for Miami, but 8 pitchers threw for them this weekend, so we have to imagine it is not one of them that will start. My best guess is going to be Blackmore and that is merely because the sophomore righty had a start a year ago. I have to imagine that those who started for them this weekend are probably better than their midweek guy, so UK should be able to hit. However, the defense should travel, especially on the artificial turf at KPP.

The middle of the lineup for the Redhawks seems to be where the danger lies with Zapp and Vogelsang. Those two hit .333 and .357 this weekend with Zapp hitting a pair of triples and Vogelsang a double. So, have to watch out for those guys as they can hit and they racked up 7 RBIs. So, there is a bit of danger there. Redhawks continue to play with their lineup, so we will see what that does for them.

For UK:

I think things will look a bit different for them as some continue to test positive and have injury troubles. In particular, I think you might see Schultz back in the infield this week and you might see Plastiak at third. So, I think that Shelby will be in the outfield along with Hill and Rhodes.

On the mound it remains a question, but some seem to believe that the weekend guys will be Stupp, Hazelwood, and Lee. That would lead me to think that Hagenow will go tomorrow. I think that is not out of the realm of possibility, although Strickland is another that could go. I imagine that everyone will have a pitch count.

I know I am just ready for some baseball! You are correct, Covid issues and a few injuries have raised its ugly head ( hope nothing significant) They need to get off to a good & fast start!

Who is injured?

Not sure entirely, but at one point with Covid, injuries, and contact tracing it was something like 20-30 guys that were unavailable. I think with the COVID and contact tracing reducing that number has gone down a lot, but there are still a handful of injuries.

I keep hitting F5 on Twitter to see the lineup, even though I know they won't post it until like 3pm. lol

For fun, I am going to take a stab at the lineup:

1. Schultz - 2B
2. Rhodes - RF
3. Collett - 1B
4. Anu - DH
5. Plastiak - 3B
6. Rubalacaba - C
7. Hill - CF
8. Shelby - LF
9. Ritter - SS

Thanks BlueStoops. That is an interesting twist that Grace is getting the start over Shelby. I really thought with Lewis being banged up that Schultz would move back down into 2B and that Shelby would get his chance in the outfield. I have heard that Shelby has struggled, but I didn't think it that bad.

First game so we shall see how it plays out.

I didn't think that homer was getting out but the ball just stayed in the air and never came down until it cleared.

Finally got the doggone UK live radio link to work. Is the game on iheart at all? Hannity on WLAP. The UK site is being a pain in the ass on mr at work trying to listen. 3-0 let's go boys!!!

Power!! UK with 3 home runs, including back to back by Collett and Anu followed by one from Hill give UK a 4-0 lead after 1.

Hagenow got into a jam in the top of 2 but gets out of it with no harm done!

Going to the bottom of the 2nd with UK leading 4-0.

Grace Ritter and Schultz due up I believe.

Ritter with a beautiful at bat fights back to a full count before getting a line drive single to left. Grace bunted him over but neither Schultz nor Rhodes could follow it up with a hit. Same score going to 3rd.

Can of corn for that half. 4-0

BTW... UK has 1 error... a grounder to Collett in the top of the 2nd that he couldn't handle.

Hagenow works quick, hits his spots, and has some nasty stuff. Kid looks like he’s going to be big time.

its not on 630......it’s on their sister station 98.5. Don’t know if that is on IHeartRadio or not. Must be something with 630’s contact and these early (4:00) starts, they are always bumped over there.

This dude’s hat comes off every time. Has to be illegal as a distraction lol. Not sure I’ve seen this before and it happens damn near every pitch

We’ll see how much of a factor these guys play in SEC play this season, but seeing the future arms today.

I don't remember our placing in the SEC but it wasn't nice but I hope they can prove some people wrong.

2 errors... It's expected for the first game of the season but the bases are loaded. Don't need to blow this lead.
