Kentucky Men's Basketball: Reed Sheppard

Kentucky Men's Basketball: Reed Sheppard

Give me a team of these kind of players with the Kentucky first mentality.
These types of players are few and far between, Kentucky has had some really good Mr. basketball players through the years that came here and done really well. They have also had several who came and didn't make much of an impact. It's hard to say what a kid will be based on just seeing him play against high school competition. Some that have come through the program have gone on to become successful NBA players and some never made it that far but were still impact players in college. Chris Lofton comes to mind, he was a prolific scorer at Tennessee but went undrafted. Then you have players like Derek Willis who wasn't a Mr. basketball but was an impact player at the college level. Willis wasn't drafted either but him and Lofton both played professionally overseas. Shepard was the least heralded of Kentucky's freshman and has outshined them all, we all thought he would be good, but I don't think anybody expected what we are seeing now.

We kind of had that with Tubby and everyone wanted rid of him.
I'd disagree with that. Tubby, toward the end, wasn't recruiting those kind of players.

Plus, Tubby only got to one FF. IF he'd gotten there with his two E8 teams......who knows.

I will say under any other circumstances Cal, or any other coach, would have been on the serious hot seat after the NIT and 9-16 teams.
