Unrelated topic from our usual coaching / portal discourse, but found this tweet interesting. Per Nielsen ratings, we seem to be a pretty decent ratings draw. I suppose there could be some additional discussion that playing in the SEC artificially raises ours, but nonetheless, eyes are on us. More than there are on several playoff teams and big brands too (Penn State, Oregon for example).

Damn this shows we have a big fan base . Unfortunately our coach stinks or we might be higher than that

I think a good portion of the SEC (and country) would be surprised at our fan showing if we ever actually had a team / coach capable of sniffing something momentous like an SEC Championship game or playoff appearance. The fanbase is hungry for some hope. Case in point, I seem to recall one of Stoops’ first spring games drawing something like 50k, and that’s for a meaningless spring game and a bad team. Can’t imagine the following for something big.

We played four of the teams on that list. Our number is skewed because people were tuning in to see UGA, Texas, UT and Florida as much as our fans were tuning in to see us. The numbers were for eyes on the games, it doesn’t break down which fans of which school were tuning in.

I don’t know how this data was compiled but I think it’s the uniforms and the fact that we are the underdog. Look at the Georgia game. We played our asses off. We went on the road and upset Ole Miss who was ranked in the Top 5 at the time. Albeit, we flamed out soon thereafter but there are a lot of college football fans that tune into SEC games. I’m looking at the positive. We are a sleeping giant in college football. A ravenous fanbase that travels. Look at the Texas game. We showed up knowing we weren’t going to win that game. We gotta find a way to get over the hump and bring this program to the next level.

Yep, the south runs college football. All but 2 of those are southern teams.

The uniforms? We wear basic uniforms. Unless you think people are tuning in to see chrome helmets, haha

But but Kentucky can’t ever be better than a midling team. We don’t have the fans or resources.

Kind of right. We don’t have a fanbase confident enough to pull a Texas AM or Tennessee etc

Our schedule was brutal, but also interesting. Just one game speaks about our potential. We lost to Georgia by one point.

How did Ole miss end up? they are probably going to a bowl game........while our qb situation is just not good.

Forgot we beat them at their place.

What's crazy is that many of the fan base checked out the last few games. Can't even imagine the ratings if we had a good program. I feel sorry for our fans and what we have to endure for those ratings. 😂

Absolutely correct.

And that is why Arkansas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Vandy, Ole Miss, Missouri, Auburn, and Mississippi State made the Top 10, too.

Hey, wait just a minute . . . .

We averaged 4.5 million in our 4 games that were not on the SEC Network (those games arent counted in the average), as much as I would like to brag about it its not really that impressive and we brought down the average for Georgia/Texas as they brought in around 2 million more on the season vs what they got against us:

South Carolina - 2.73 million viewers
Georgia - 6.6 million viewers
Ole Miss - 3.99 million viewers
Texas - 4.47 million viewers

True - but we were still watched by those folks - which shows a how good the football program can grow - if we win - because we will be on TV with those same or very similar opponents every year! 3 of the 8 teams with higher viewership than us are in the SEC and we will play them in the years we don't play the ones listed above us this year!

Living in Ohio close to Columbus and The Ohio State you wouldn’t believe the amount of people who follow the SEC and actively root for KY Football. I’ve talked more KY Football the last few years than I ever have before.

Where did Vanderbilt rank? it will be interesting to compare Vanderbilt TV viewership to Kentucky's in 2025. That will give us a true picture, if you don't already know, of what Kentucky football is going to be inthe future. This might be some info that helps a certain AD understand what is really happening with Kentucky football. This thread needs to be kept and compared a year from now - as we have almost exactly the same schedule in 2025 as this year!
