The KSR guys have stated that Coach Pope made an effort to keep Big Z here AND Jaden also. BOTH decided to leave.
Quaintance saw how Coach Pope used Amari and they contacted Coach Pope and even took LESS money to come back to UK.
Coach Pope had NO interest in bringing Big Z back. Now that the Big Croation has signed to play here, I see why.
Wilkerson has a chance to become next season's Derek Anderson - i.e., the guy who takes you from really dominant to clear-cut title favorite.
Now getting this kid would instantly jump us into serious tilted contention! Could you imagine a backcourt of Ian Jackson, Jasper Johnson, Otega Oweh, Jaland Lowe, Colin Chandler, and even some of Kam Williams? That would be an elite group of guards/wings, one that wins championships!

Agree with this. I don’t think money is an issue at all. Several million comes out of the coal fields alone. I could only imagine throughout the state that business owners donate in a big way.

People underestimate how large BBN is. We don’t have individual billionaires but we have plenty of millionaires in the state who are huge fans. We donate to our team like a pro squad because it is our pro squad and always has been. Even people of modest means will give everything they can because they care deeply about our school.

Not what I said--I said the NCAA settlement $ will be allotted differently. St. John's will be able to utilize most of the $20M on their basketball program for Pitino and UK will have to spread that amongst the other sports. St. John's also has two billionaire fans that help Pitino get what he wants or make sure that $ won't be any issues with them getting into a recruitment.
Big East $ from the NCAA Settlement will help their Basketball programs more than other conferences. That's just reality.

I agree that if Haggerty leaves it will be for more winning and exsposure. Memphis is a cesspool in slot of ways but there is huge money in that town as well. Tennessee no income tax and reasonable corporate taxes have brought a ton of companies into that town.
Yes--that $20-22M is going to go out to every school as a settlement. It's why there have been some articles not pleased with fact Power Conferences have to spread out their $ and other conferences/programs like Big East will be able to allocate to CBB.
Here's the main thing-we're closer to the NCAA not having any power or existing and the Power Conferences run their own thing and exclude the little guy-it's going to suck in CBB for many traditional fans but CFB/CBB are going to break away from NCAA and operate differently very soon.

JQs dad openly said pope had an initial conversation but didn’t actively pursue the recruitment.
Having an initial feeler conversation and/or giving a previously committed guy the respect to sit down and explain that the program is looking for a clean slate/moving in a different cultural direction isn’t the same as a full court press recruitment.
As for Jackson…. I think we either land Wilkerson or Jackson….or a surprise late addition (this time last season we only had Perry and Amari and the staff wasn’t even completed)

I think there was always money there. I just think the people that were supplying most of it was tired of giving it to Cal! After the Sharpe fiasco I think a lot of boosters had their fill of Cal!
