You do realize at the end of the day it is Kentucky against Kansas. I don't care who they have or where we play, I like our chances.

Skal is a future top 2 pick. Diallo is probably a two year guy. I anticipate Skal dominating him in every fathomable area of the game except for perhaps rebounding.

How is Diallo a two year guy? The post match up comes down to how healed Poythress is. Otherwise, advantage has to go to KU from a talent and depth perspective. Who contains Mason? In our beat down last year, Mason penetrated to the basket at will (of course, he got stuffed time after time, but that shouldn't be an issue with all the post departures (Johnson, Lyles, WCS, and KT).

Poy, Skal, and Marcus Lee are all more than capable of protecting the rim.

Johnson and Lyles weren't rim protectors. Lyles played the 3 and Johnson could barely get any lift.

Also I don't see how Poythress, Lee, and Skal haven't proven themselves to not be able to block a 5 ft nothing guard. You are probably delusional enough to think Kansas makes it out of the first weekend as well aren't you.[roll]

I think Kansas will be very good this year. Luckily for them I don't think they play Temple again this year...

Diallo may very well be a OAD but the kid better get an offensive game if he is going to go high. Tough for a 6'9 energy guy to go Top 10. Seeing how well Self did with Cliff it is reasonable to think Cheick could at least reach those heights.

This is a joke, right? Dude is 6'9, incredibly thin, and has no skills whatsoever outside of rebounding and fast breaks, and again, he's 6'9. He's not a one and done, and if he decides to be one and done, it won't bode well for him.
Poythress will be fine by January, but Marcus Lee blasted Kansas last year, so again, I'm gonna say advantage UK based on what I previously seen.
Who contains Mason? Penetrated at will? They funneled Frank Mason into the lane because he kept jacking up shots, which is why Kansas lost by 32. If you didn't notice, Mason didn't exactly go off, and many people outside of the Kansas fan base (example: majority of the national analysts and writers) view Tyler Ulis as being the better of the two guards, and potentially the best point guard in college next season.

Its actually just Skal, Poy, and Lee VS Bragg, Ellis and Diallo. Kansas has a bunch of mediocrity in their frontcourt after those 3 guys. Traylor is a decent backup, but he's nothing more. Mickelson and Lucas will barely see the court since they have Bragg and Ellis coming in. Obviously Bragg, Ellis, and Diallo will get the bulk of the minutes in the frontcourt, but after that Lucas, Traylor, and Mickelson will be fighting to get the 4th most minutes. 2 of those guys wont play much I wouldn't think. They could go big and put Ellis at the 3, but I think one of Green or the foreign kid will break out. They're pretty deep.

Who will contain Frank, lol. I'll take any of our three point guards over Frank. Now he's a solid players and likely won't be shut out, but its unlikely he's taking any of our guards to school.

KU is deep, but I'll take our front court and our roster over KU's, even if we lose on the road. We are more talented and have a better coach who will get out of his group come March.

Realistically, playing at Kansas in January you can bank on foul trouble for our bigs.

Here is my take:

Projected Starters
G Ulis >> Mason- Mason is steady, Ulis is dynamic.
G Briscoe = Selden- Briscoe is more talented, but Selden has experience.
G Murray >> Greene- Murray is going to be one of the best guards in the country.
F Poythress = Ellis- if Poy is 100% healthy.
F Labissiere > Diallo- this one is close, Diallo has a great motor, but Labissiere is more talented.

I think KU's bench is better or at least deeper, but I like UK's starters better.

The game is in Lawrence, so KU gets the edge.

Honestly Frank Mason is one of the best matchups for Ulis all year. Most will dwarf him but Mason won't. I also believe Ulis is faster and a better defender. Plus Tyler won't chuck up 30 shots just to get 10 points in the game.

lucas, traylor, and mickelson suck...lets be real. KU fans can come here and hype them up as much as they want and make the sound like seasoned vets...but got to their boards during games...they hate these players. and with good reason...they are terrible. so really KU only has diallo, perry, and bragg.

diallo...great energy...ZERO offensive game. take away garbage baskets and run outs....against good teams...he wont do much offensively. skal does everything he does on defense and boards...but is light years ahead offensively. also Cal will start Skal and not hold him back....diallo, self will continue his history and micromanage him.

perry....he is the same player he was when he came in as a freshman. very solid, fundamentally sound. now that he is a SR he will perform well against most teams/players. but will always struggle against legit NBA players because he isnt one. not a bad thing, he is what he is. below the rim player that is soft. but now he is experience and that will benefit him against younger players. lee....we will see. he is on the perfect team for his skill set. has 3 or 4 guys that drive, pass, and shoot. which will free him up for stuff around the rim. we have seen him defend and rebound well, and has the potential to take it to the next level.

bragg....will be a more typical up and down freshman that self has had. good games against bad teams, struggle other times. occasional WOW performance. poythress....he will be UK's X factor. shut down wing/post defender. playing the 4, and again have 2-3 PGs passing, should be great. he really shined last year playing the 4 and now will get to do this year. dont see bragg playing with him.

KU is pretty bad on the boards, doesnt block shots, and isnt good on defense....dont see that changing much going forward. they will have a great year in the big 12 again no question. its a league without NBA talent which is huge. teams play small. will be highly ranked and get a top seed in the NCAAT for sure. but i'll bet they dont really beat anybody that matters.

i've been watching some of the world university games, and mickelson has surprised me a little bit. it might have more to do with the weak competition, but he seems improved.

even still, the only meaningful post players at KU are Ellis, Bragg, and Diallo.

there's a reason why Self was chasing Diallo, Thon Maker, etc., and it's because the majority of his bigs are laughably bad.

Joel Embiid ain't walking through that door.

I wouldn't say they suck, but each is a decent 4th big off the bench and at least = to what Kentucky has a a fourth big.

Have you seen him play, because that is not his game. If you compare his stats to all the point guards in his class, his stats dwarf all of them and are equal to Cat Barber. His defense is average, but he will double Ullis's production, plus he has about 3 inches on him, and Ullis will not be able to stay in front of him.

In Lawrence we win. In Lexington, it's a push or Kentucky wins. Also, look for Selden to play the three, so when looking at match ups Ullis (at 5'8) will be matched up against Graham (at 6'2); Mason at 5'10 will be matched up with Briscoe at 6'1, Selden at 6'5 will be matched up with Poythress at 6'7.

then you haven't watched Diallo defend in the paint very much. UK's best hope with him is that he has the typical adjustment period getting used to how college fouls are called for a big man. Diallo is gonna be a college stuf IMO just because he's going to outwork whoever he's matched up against every single night. He's Chuck Hayes-like in that regard, except way longer, taller, and more athletic.

I'm not ready to anoint Diallo better than Skal defensively. They're both studs on the defensive end, but Skal might surprise some folks in much the same way Karl did last year when it comes to rim protection.

Diallo is a top 10 pick.....2016 draft.

Selby and Alexander were locks for the top 10 coming out of high school as well. Even Oubre and Henry lost stock while at Kansas. I expect the same for Diallo. He's not good enough offensively and unless that dramatically changes (it's certainly possible) with the work he's putting in, I'd be shocked if he's a top ten 2016 pick.

The difference in the game against Kansas will be the guard play. We have 3 excellent guards and their backcourt doesn't come close. It will be a tough challenge on the road but the Cats should take care of business.

[roll]You guys scored 9 field goals. 9.

Talk about delusional

I think our backcourt has the edge and perhaps their front court based on depth. This game is at Kansas so Ina neutral floor, UK is the victor, but Phog Allen is a very difficult place to play, and like Rupp, no matter how even the teams are, they get extra points and calls being at home. Reminds me of Indiana game in 2011, but hopefully with a less dangerous crowd.

Skal is the star of all of those players. He will be a top 2 pick in the 2016 draft.

As for the rest, the duo of Poy and Lee are as good as any two that Kansas can put together.

It isn't a push at Rupp, dude. But you will almost definitely be favored in Lawrence.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but by the time this match up happens, UK will have added Wynyard to the lineup. He isn't an AA per se, but he's certainly a capable big that adds some depth to our front court.

Skal, Poy, Lee, Wynyard -vs- Diallo, Bragg, Perry, Traylor

I like UK's front court and back court better, but the venue is what makes me cautious about predicting a UK win. Should be a fun game.

Diallo seems like he will get called for traveling more than dakari.

In the YT highlight reel from the NHS, Murray passes ahead to Diallo, who does a spin move and scores. He obviously travelled, but it wasn't called because it's an AS game.
