I don’t really get into Kentucky Football like I do Basketball but I have to ask why are Football fans okay with appearing in pointless bowl games every year? At what point do fans get tired of that? I understand we aren’t as invested in the football program but I think there has to come a point where we expect more from Stoops and his staff. Would love to hear people’s opinions on this…..

But Kentucky Basketball is held to higher standards, it’s Championship or bust almost every season
Haha, it is? Been a mediocre at best top 40 at best program since March 2015. A basketball only fan, trying to preach to football fans about meaningless pointless postseason achievements.....after what his team has done from 2016 on? quite amusing.

Tell me when I'm telling lies.

I'll engage you (although I'm not sure what the point of this thread is, or if you are just baiting people). I'm a fan of both, but this is simply not true. There have been 84 champions in college basketball. UK has won 10% of them. In the last 73 years, UK has won 4 (about 6%). So, has UK basketball been a failure 90% of their seasons?

Of course Kentucky basketball is held to higher standards....they have the history to back those higher standards up. Kentucky football is now held to higher standards than it was just 10 year ago. No longer is simply being bow eligible acceptable. If we have more 6 and 7 win seasons, the pressure will be on Stoops.

I have never understood a fan that is only a fan of 1 particular sport at UK.

Playing a Power 5, now 4, Team not named LV and not in SEC is very unique for this program. So it's fun.

This, I'm a UK fan. While I've been going to football games for over 40 years and have had season tickets of my own for 29 years, I still consider myself a fan of all sports. If a particular UK team is playing on TV and i'm in a place I can watch it, I will. be it volleyball, women's basketball, baseball, whatever. I'm a UK Alum and they are my school. I've sat through some mighty crappy football, but continue to hold out hope. we've played in two Citrus bowls in the last 5 years. in 2018, we actually played Georgia for the SEC East division championship and the rights to go to the SEC championship game. Now of course we lost that, but being in that position was a defining moment as to where we've come as a program, and as the 2007 win over #1 and eventual national Champion LSU shows, anything can happen. Football is being held to a higher standard these days, look at these forums after sloppy games like this past week. Next year the Playoffs expand to 12 teams. That happening, means we will have more of a fighting chance to make the playoffs in the future. If the OP thinks firing Stoops is warranted right now, I want to know who in the heck he thinks we would get to replace him that would be willing to come here after we just fired the winningest coach in UK history.

The post-season formats for the sports are quite different. Citrus Bowl victories against programs like Penn State and Iowa are viewed as stepping stones on the way to creating a program that wins on a more consistent basis. Winning on a more consistent basis instills a better mindset within and around the program and helps change the perception of the program.

From there, the next step would be to start going to NY6 Bowl Games and gunning for an at-large playoff berth. (I guess with the 12-team playoff, NY6 Bowls would all be playoffs, though, yeah?).

It took a little while, but Stoops has built a solid foundation to at least put us on a better trajectory instead of crossing our fingers to go 6-6 or 7-5 and get a random bowl invitation. We reasonably cannot expect to be a perennial power, but winning more consistently and having the occasional special season is certainly now more possible than it ever was before.

Who says the bowls are pointless? You? If so, then you invented this question.

I'm far, far more OK with Stoops performance than Cal's at this point. It's not even close. Cal should have been fired a few years ago. Stoops deserves his raises. This question really is kind of stupid in addition to being false.

I'm not OK with pointless thread titles like this, though.

My opinion is I really don't care about your opinion.

Basketball teams in the sec, almost every one of them has celebrated just making the tournament. Which is the same as in football for mid to lower tier programs like Kentucky.

And if you are this ignorant on football just do yourself a favor and stay away from the sport all together because all your posts scream troll or just pure ignorance.

I don’t know a single football fan who was happy with the season last year and you are saying that the fans here say it is like a national championship.

Stoops has done more with football than any coach in the last 75 years has at Kentucky. Cal has ruined the program. Stick to the basketball board.

This thread is obviously bait but I’ll say I don’t get as excited about bowls as most. There’s way too many bowls and the best players don’t even play in them. I’ll always watch but our bowl last year looked like an exhibition game

So then by your logic outside of Bama, UGA, Clemson and a once off or LSU/Ohio St...why do any other progams even care about their football teams? Nobody else has one a title other than those 5 schools since BCS in past decade.

So should Michigan, Tennessee, Miami, Florida St, Auburn, etc give up?

I'm not sure you keep up with the times, not even sure you are a UK fan, but I will bite and play. To answer your questions....

Why are basketball fans ok with the Bball team and Cal underachieving consistently? Why did we give a lifetime contract to a guy who has had more talent than anyone over the last 15 years and only has 1 title? Who knows why fanhood does what it does man, just go with it lol

Well gee, we had a UK basketball "player" opt out of an entire season two years ago. By your reasoning, that means the whole season is pointless.
Bam! Truth bomb.

The entire sport of men's college basketball is pointless..... based on the dedication shown by UK players since 2015. Mystery injuries, mystery sit-out agreements, guys halfway decent bolt after 8 months for the NBA, or if they aren't good they instantly portal to better coached programs.

Dude is just baiting and fishing for reactions, no one I know really gave a crap about Iowa and the bowl because it was a disappointing season and our QB along with others opted out. Just to throw it out there, I’d also say the Citrus Bowl wins were a little higher on the totem pole than getting our shit kicked in the tourney by St Francis and having UK’s worst bball season in history.

Definitely a troll post. 🤣 I was so annoyed and fell for it.

And UK basketball has won 4 titles since 1959. Uconn has 5 in last 24 years. This whole championship or bust mentality is dumb. It's rare to win a title for most sports teams.

Very few alabama football, new England patriot and la laker type runs out there n 21st century.

You think I disagree? Well I don't. I get interested in UK hoops a bit around SEC tourney time. Right now, I couldn't name a roster player. Maybe if you gave me five names I could pick one out. Besides, 90% will be gone in 6-7 months.

There a massive difference in National Championship and meaningless. It was a nice accomplishment and should be recognized as such. I have no use for those who crap on 10 win seasons and bowl wins.

Why do TN titans fans keep supporting the team? Nashville pred fans? Hell my cardinals suck n baseball and UK basketball has sucked for 4 years now.

Still a fan.
Same with my Reds. Been supporting them and the Bengals since I can remember and will do it until I croa.....uuuhhnnnnn

Exactly. I root for UK in everything, especially cheerleading. Those 18 or 19 national championships are why though... or so I tell my wife.

Why do KY basketball fans travel to Canada, New York or London, England for meaningless games....just sayin....

I am a KY fan....I support all KY sports.

Bowls are just end of season pageantry. They are essentially March Madness but not in play off form.

"We got to a bowl" is equivalent to "We made the dance"...good year in most cases. There's the 5-6 win bowl teams, but there's also some teams in the first and second rounds of the dance that are average at best.

"We got to the peach, fiesta, cotton, rose, orange, sugar..." is about the same as we got to the elite 8...great season.

Both are lot of entertainment, have some interesting match ups of teams that don't often or never meet in the regular season, bunch of exposure to programs you don't really see a lot of on prime time tv.

Sure everyone wants to be in the playoff, but that just isn't happening. Kentucky Football is now expected to not just get to a Bowl, but to at least play in a NY6 Bowl Game. The expectations are much higher to have a 8/9/10 Win season than they were before.
