Kentucky @ Elon - Game 2

Gilliam with a single to lead off the UK 8th. Gray says he gets hit by the pitch when trying to bunt. Umpires give it to him and say he wasn't offering. Umps talking it over and will give him the bag. Sac bunt by Stanke moves them over. I guess we need to get used to this as UK will likely play a lot of small ball this year. Byars also squaring to bunt early, but now he's swinging and the count goes full. Byars grounds one up the middle and it is an RBI ground out 4-0 UK. Smith with a big base hit with 2 outs to make it 5-0. The second 2 out hit for UK in this one that has helped to really blow this one open.

Just checked the score a minute ago been out today looks like we've got this one. Bosma must have pitched a pretty darn good game

Bosma was perfect through 5, so he was outstanding. I think only gave up 1 or maybe 2 hits total.

Edit: He had 3 hits and 14ks... 14!? Is that real life?!

Much better at bats the last few innings. Hopefully that is the hitters getting comfortable and not just lower quality of pitching.

Stricky out again for the bottom of the 8th. Stricky working efficiently again. A couple quick outs. Then a soft grounder to short to end the 8th. Nice job Stricky.

Three up three down for UK there. Not a real great inning. So we go to the last frame. One last chance for Elon. Strickland back out. UK really riding the hot arms as we may very well only see 4 pitchers through 2 games.

One out walk and then Stricky gives up a double. Wonder what kind of leash Roszel will give him here?

Gray makes a sliding catch in center, but Elon does get on the board with the sac fly. UK doing a good job keeping Stephenson from hitting the long ball so far this weekend. 5-1 now. Dropped strike three, but Stanke throws the runner out at first and the game ends with a UK win 5-1

No I think you are thinking of combining this start with his last start of the year last year. He gave up two hits today and had four strikeouts. His last start in the SEC tournament he gave up one hit and had 10 strikeouts.

Then he shouldn't be in the 4 hole when he has that mindset.
Yep and that may be a conversation they are going to have. I think we have to remember that this is a young kid who's getting his first Real playing time. His mindset has probably been to do whatever he's called upon whenever he gets a little bit of playing time and so they may have to be talking to him to adjust his mindset.

He probably wasn't wanting a bunt there with two outs, but he squared around several times that first at-bat. If Mingione didn't want a bunt, he had a chance to tell him to swing away.
Yeah and now that I've seen today I feel like maybe he did talk to him and when he tried to square around with the bases loaded is when he got upset because he was probably like dude we just talked about this.

Ohh ok. Thanks. I didn't read the tweet very well apparently. Lol

Bosma and Strickland combined to only throw 105 pitches. Game only took 2:17 to play (first game was really quick as well). Nothing helps a team more than the pitcher throwing strikes and making the opponent put the ball in play . . . plus it is 100 times more enjoyable to watch.

Bosma had one heck of a day. I’m hoping our hitting comes around or it’ll be a long season.

I was there and had a flight to catch and was thinking I'd see half the game or so, but saw almost the whole thing. Definitely an efficient game. Bosma worked quick and filled up the zone. I think the ball only got out of the infield 4 or 5 times. There was like five or six 1-3 or 3-1 put outs. Fun game to watch from our perspective.

This game was much more like what I wanted to see from us in game 1. Starting pitching was more dominant and hitting was a big more efficient.

That Elon pitcher Friday was similar to Bosma yesterday. Not over powering. Just hitting spots with all his pitches. Amazing how that works in baseball. No matter how hard you throw, if you hit your spots and change speeds effectively, you'll get people out.
