Kentucky Bound Bam Adebayo Is A Beast - 2015 City of Palms Debut Highlights

That's not very good news and counter to everything else I've heard.

Don't take my word for it man, I don't have a damn clue about scouting or anything of that sort, that's just who he reminds me of in that clip.

I'm excited like everybody else....but a word of caution Bam doesn't have any post moves yet (plays like Deandre Jordan down low with a better 15 foot jumper to be fair) and isn't in the same league as Randle was as a post scorer. He will contribute heavily and be a force on defense and rebounding but we still could really use Bolden. He has the Cousins, Randle, Towns low post game that Cal utilizes so well in his offense.

Big and strong and its all natural..dude hadnt even started lifting weights till this summer!
He will have to lift with the football team apparently as the ball team doesn't seem to have a strength coach. we definitely need to recruit several more guys with strength. Wouldn't bet money on how much time Humphries or Wynyard will play.

Personally I'm sick of a three guard offense. Sounds exciting but sucks on the floor.

I will wait and see how it looks at the end of the year before I judge one way or the other. Right now we are frustrated with it because we suffered a tough loss.

Most likely we run a three guard lineup again if Ulis (or Briscoe) comes back. Fox and Monk are guaranteed starters. Same with Adebayo. Three spots are locks and the other two depends on who comes back and improvements, etc.

Starters
G Fox- lock
G Monk- lock
G/F Ulis or Briscoe- lock (if one returns), Gabriel or Matthews compete for the spot.
F Adebayo- lock
F Lee- lock (if he returns), Killeya-Jones (I give him the edge), Humphries (must improve the defense), Willis (not likely), Wynyard (he's the mystery), or Bolden (if he signs with us).

If all of our top six leave (which I think happens), I think Cal will start the five Freshmen and bring Matthews, Humphries (or Wynyard), and Willis off the bench a la 2013-14 with Randle and company. We might expect a similar year (hopefully fewer losses, but a similar end result- Final Four appearance).

He is heavier then 230 muscle weighs more then fat and he is all muscle. He is 250 plus easily I would put my pink slip on it!

Watched him play on Saturday. Here's some thoughts I wrote for another source:

Ripped, strong, bouncy, skilled

I thought he was 6'9 and 230. Wrong. 6'10 and 260 according to the City of Palms program. (His upper arms are as big as my thighs) (Not really, in case Bev stalks us)

He has tremendous lift for a big. Several times his head was rim high.

Here is what is different from a lot of our former players. He has guard skills. Has a great handle, I mean killer. A crossover maneuver from 20 out, and the rest is history, SLAM.

Stats for this ONE game: 23 points, mostly dunks in the paint, except for a nice 18 footer swish and an up and under pivot for the layup.

The guy can sky, Wigginsish.

I have this silly performance evaluation thing I do. The good news is that on athletic ability I gave him top scores on speed, quickness, stamina, and coordination. He has the best crossover of ANY big we've had since Cal came. EXPLOSIVE, and quick.

I do see some things not so rosy.

He is NOT a center. He is a power forward, imo. He doesn't play in the paint. Like a Wiggins, he camps on the outside waiting for the rock in order to make his amazing, and I mean amazing, moves that freezes opponents and he's elbows above the rim. (He missed a dunk....the ball hit so hard on the back rim it almost left the gym)

On shooting, I rated him highest for paint production, high on mechanics and craftiness. I didn't rate him high on outside the paint shooting, though he did swish an 18 footer. MOST OF HIS 23 POINTS were authoritative crams.

Guys, Bam has guard skills, and at least for this ONE game I took in, he played like one.....camped outside, waiting for the pass on the wing, and when he got it, he went to work, and scored on a variety of dunks. I can't name a former Calipari player who is like Adebayo. Patterson, maybe.

Cal will eat his lunch. The guy coasts and takes time off......last one down the court sometimes. I have the opinion that his coach is letting him think he is a guard.

BOTTOM LINE: A one and done. Way big hops, strong, talented. Stronger than Cousins even. He needs Cal.

I am not a scout or former coach and this is not a professional evaluation of talent. I am a retired Army Officer from Sandy Hook that has followed Ky BB since 1950. I live part time in Ft Myers and have attended several City of Palms tournaments. Bam is the quickest, most explosive big man I have seen at this tournament. He left guards nailed to the floor with his "jukes" and lateral moves and "skyed" above opposing centers to slam dunk with his elbows above the rim. I saw Giles last year and thought he had the quickest most explosive hops I had seen on a 6" 10" player. Bam is quicker, stronger and has better hops than Giles. Make no mistake about it he is a legitimate 6'10" and weighs at least 250. He is a Dwight Howard clone who would hang on the perimeter and set his teammates up while toying with the other team until the game became close. He would then take control of the game and score at will. He could easily have scored 40 points rather than the 23 he had. He could have also dominated the paint if needed. I lived in Augusta, Ga for 20 years and attended the "Peach Jam" for years. I have never seen a more talented big man than Bam. He is that good! I was also impressed that he took time from warm ups to have his photo taken with Ky kids and that several times he passed up wide open shots to set his teammates up for dunks. BBN is going to love this guy!
I had the pleasure of meeting Dave Kersey who's posts I have always enjoyed. I introduced him to my neighbor and friend , Dave Harris, who scored 22 points against Cotton Nash to win the 1961 UKIT for St Louis Univ.

I know I'm biased, but I think Adebayo made the perfect choice in UK for his development. Calipari is such a rock star on the coaching stage that he doesn't have to kiss the *** of adolescents and tell them whatever they want to do is ok. Maybe I'm wrong, but I suspect that most coaches wouldn't necessarily feel that freedom with the top recruits. So with Adebayo, if Calipari thinks he needs to catch and maneuver in the post more often, rather than say starting the offensive set from 20 ft. out on the floor everytime, then that's what he will be made to do. And just like with Towns, the final product will be much better for it.
