Kentucky #19 AP

Bama controls its destiny, they win out and they’ll be fine - UT has to go to UGA and OSU and Michigan play. Meanwhile, Clemson has a cake walk.

Hopefully Notre Dame plays like their buttholes are on fire. We are all Irish November 5th. Would love for OSU/Michigan to be surrounded on all sides. Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee (I know that would stink), Little Ten team.

Conference is weak. Only 4 of the top 7 teams.
Ha! The top of the SEC is there. We started the year with 8 in the top 25. I guess we didn't wow the writers with our OOC wins.

Georgia's best was Oregon
Tennessee's best was Pittsburgh
Kentucky's best was NIU
South Carolina's best was Georgia State
Florida's best was Utah
Missouri's best was Louisiana Tech (got stomped by Kansas State
Vanderbilt's best was NIU (got stomped by Wake Forest

Ole Miss's best was Troy
Alabama's best was Texas
LSU's best was New Mexico (lost to FSU)
Mississippi State's best was Memphis
Texas A&M's best was Miami (FL) (lost to App State)
Arkansas's best was Cincinnati
Auburn's best was San Jose State

Wouldn't worry about it. The rankings are meaningless outside of the playoff contenders anyways and the playoff poll isn't even out yet.
I hate this take. We are Kentucky, the consummate basketball school. Uk has fought tooth and nail for decades for a crumb of respect and recognition. When was the last time we even sustained a ranking through a full season?

These “meaningless” rankings represent everything we have never had. If you want to change the culture then we need the Kentucky name to mean something. It means a lot more with a little number beside it. This is something to celebrate. Don’t take it for granted

Ranked teams get more attention. Week in and week out.

A lot of KY fans don’t realize this because they aren’t used to Kentucky being ranked week in and week out.

I’ve said it over and over. Kentucky fans are in uncharted territory. They have no idea how to cope with having a good football team. It seems a lot of our fans either undervalue kentuckys success and still act caught off guard by it. Or even worse, they apply their basketball entitlement to football and expect Kentucky to be Alabama or Ohio state.

I know it would be hard for UK to be like Bama (and would take decades of hard sustained work) but why not? Why can’t Kentucky be the top program in the East or at least compete for it every year? With its resources, UK should be able to compete well in the SEC. I’m tired of accepting mediocrity here. “Oh same ol Kentucky” pisses me off to no end. Now I’m a realist. I know we can’t win a title every year or even the East every year (like is expected in bball) BUT it would be nice to try. And Stoops has busted ass to get in spitting distance, but something still seems to be missing.

I like Stoops and last night was a tale of two Marks (first half was gutless, second half was really ballsy at times). I want to see 2nd half Stoops more often. Take chances. Step on somebody’s throat every now and then. He just is either too nice or too conservative here and there. I love him but the first half last night made me want to scream. Tight offense. Questionable calls. Let them play. Another UK coach is guilty of that too. And yes it drives me just as nuts.

I know it wouldn’t happen but it would be insanely awesome to crush a USC jr by 30. Or hang 42 on UT on the reg.

Just ready for someone to say “We gotta play Kentucky next week? Oh sh….” At least for awhile.

You’re right about one thing, something still seems to be missing. That thing is decades of winning culture which breeds a bench full of blue chip athletes 4 deep. This will be a slow process. If you think stoops is the only coach that makes his fanbase question his calls then you need to get out more. Things are moving in the right direction. I wish people would get perspective. We all want the same thing but you can’t wave a magic wand at it and make it appear.

I’ve had 30 plus years of perspective on the program. I don’t understand why consistency can’t be bred here. That’s my point. Stoops has done well on that for the most part. That’s why the heat is up a bit on him (at least open criticism wise; his job is safe). He’s shown he’s capable of winning but we’ve just have that one clunker every year that just is unacceptable. Even without Levis there’s NO way we should’ve played that bad last week. That’s just not going to fly anymore. I mean we had 10 freaking penalties I. The first qtr last night. Awful! The second half is what we should look like the rest of the season. No questions asked (minus the damn injury bug that keeps floating around). It’s different if we play UGA or Bama who’s just going to out man us. We’ve yet to play a team this year wholly better than us. Even Ole Miss didn’t look that great against our defense. We just shut ourselves in the dang foot.

It’s mostly little stuff. But that’s where the difference lies between good and great teams. In the details. I think the most frustrating part is we had two losses last year that kept us from something special (Ms St and UT) and we’re kinda here again (Ole Miss and USC). Just aggravating is all. Im happy as heck with the win last night. It was a good solid win. But like with Cal again, I’m ready for Stoops to get that defining season (make and NY6 bowl; win the East). We’re just so close and the last two weeks we’re like “Seriously?”

Hilarious. We best a ranked team- move up 3 spots. Illinois beats an unranked team and moves up 6 spots.

Every year the SEC beats itself up and gets beat up in the rankings. The big10 and ACC and pac12 get the benefits. Then we play up and beat them in bowl games...

We could have been hammered worse for our loss to SC.

The pollsters actually applied some goodwill. Hence, we didn’t get much of a jump after beating MSU.

Can’t explain Illinois, but I can promise you we are better than them.

Unlike our basketball program, as long as we have existed we refuse to play big intersectional tough schools in football unlike Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama LSU. The big orange idiots to the south play home in homes with UCLA, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, etc
yes they all played cupcakes but we only played cupcakes out of conference. Do you want national exposure? Play big boys out of conference
we get delusional damn near every year because we start off so damn hot and then run into reality. We ought to demand better

That’s a great post. If Levi’s was healthy, we would have beat the feathers off the Gamecocks. Stoops made some adjustments that really helped last Saturday. Even if we lose at UT, that wouldn’t be “two steps back”. Tough place to play for obvious reasons. We might end up with four loses but I am excited about the future. Should be some QBs in the transfer portal that are encouraged to come to UK based on Levi’s trajectory.

I’m actually surprised UK wasn’t ranked closer to #15. For TV a top 5 vs a top 15 match up would be very attractive next week.

Not counting the bowls, we had 4 7-win seasons in the Brooks era. In 2006, we lost to #13 UL in the first game. In 2007, we beat #9 UL in the second game and #1 LSU in the 7th game, which justified the 'delusion'. By 2008, UL had dropped off, so we were 4-0 and then lost to #2 Bama, but were never ranked. In 2009, we played #1 UF and #3 Bama in the 3rd and 4th games of the season.

In the Stoops era, we started winning 7 or more games in 2016. We lost to SMU in the first game, then unranked UF next. In 2017 (This is probably the timeframe you were referring to), we won 3 to start, lost to UF by 1, then won 2 more before the rails fell off at Miss St. Still won 7 though. Similarly, in 2018, we beat UF in game 2 and #14 MSU in game 4, but lost to A&M in the 5th game. Still went 9-3 and were ranked top 15-20 all year. In 2019, we lost to #9 UF in game 3, then to unranked MSU and unranked USC. Ended with 7-5 and were never ranked. In 2021, we started off 6-0, but, again, beat USC, #10 UF, and LSU to get there. Still won 9 games. This year we beat #12 UF in game 2 and now #16 MSU in game 7.

All-in-all, I'm not really seeing delusion. Maybe in 2008 and 2017. The team justified the hype in 2018 and 2021. 2007 could go either way I suppose. BTW, you are going to really hate next year's schedule ~ Ball St, EKU, Akron, Vandy to start the year.

Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. UK doesn’t have Alabama, Georgia or even Tennessee depth. Injuries matter in this league.
