I could be wrong but I think that defense has actually come up a little, didn't it used to be in the low 100s? If so, that's at least a good sign.
Worst I remember seeing it this year was 97, but it could have been worse than that. Either way, it does seem to be improving. Bama made the Final Four last year with a defense ranked in the 100s.
We were at 74 before the Alabama game, then it went to 84. After the Vandy loss, it went to 78. 72 is an improvement, we're going the right direction. LOL
KenPom defense is fake.
He doesn’t count an offensive rebound as a possession.
Tn got 18 offensive rebounds. If you put back those 18 possessions than KenPomPom didn’t count the numbers look much different.
But the team is still the same team. Nerd numbers just give talking heads something to talk about.

Taking out the fact Tennesse can't shoot, I thought we looked better on defense. Probably gonna be a year where the D peaks at the end of the season. Pope knows what's up. Playing for Pitino he most definitely does.
19th is pretty low for a team that has wins vs the # 3, 4, 6, 10, 16, 25 and 26 ranked kenpom teams.

Kenpom isn’t that far off from NET. If you look closely, teams ranked 19th to 11th on Kenpom are all within 1 NetRtg. Practically, Kentucky is tied for 11th with 8 other teams.
Anyone realize going by current rankings we have played 5 ranked teams in a row and 6 of 7. Wow. Meanwhile everyone's darling Dook hasn't played a ranked opponent since Louisville Dec. 8. Wow
Down the stretch we play 7 top 40 and 6 ranked teams. Dook plays 2 top 40 and 1 ranked teams. Their getting so much credit for beating up on bums. I don't think they'd be top 4 in the SEC. Half their wins came against teams with a losing record.

I really can't worry about our defensive metrics too much when a. We have been down 2 (or 3) players for the last few games and b. We continue to lose the foul and Free Throw disparity.
In my opinion our defense is probably good enough to be in the 40s or 50s but It's hard to keep your PPP numbers in check when a team like Tennessee is at the bonus after just 7 minutes of play.

Yeah, it seems like every game we play is a featured game, because we're a highly ranked team playing another highly ranked team.
This has been a wild season and we got the right coach just in time. I can't imagine having Cal coaching UK in this SEC.
Right? We might be something like 1-6 in Conference play. Just guessing, of course.
We’ve played 5-6 of the top offenses in college. Luckily that changes now other than Auburn and Alabama.
I'd only say one head scratcher, and that's the blowout loss on a neutral court to #24 (in KenPom) Ohio State. Losing on the road to numbers 29, 37, and 44 are not head scratchers. It's hard to win on the road, and any top 50 team on their home court is dangerous.

Yeah. This is what’s causing the difference between NET and KP (and prob Aikes but he can speak to that). Our first shot defense isn’t as bad as it’s made out to be.
I won’t say it’s “fake”, but different perspective for sure. It’s accurately captures our biggest weakness of giving up too many offensive rebounds. That weakness is the common denominator in all of our losses. Our big wins, we’ve been able to keep it relatively in check….Tenn is the exception and we overcame a ton of offensive rebounds.
