Many don't realize how very lucky we are to live in this country.
There's a big portion of this country( who all seem to vote the same way) that don't believe this country is that great.
I think people are nuts for going to places like Turkey or Muslim countries or communist countries. You are venturing into dangerous territory. It's not like the west at all.
I'm Republican and I do not trust either party as far as I can throw them. The US has a one party system with election laws that limit competition except for the Dems and Republicans. I know many Democrats who feel the US is great and some Republicans who are never happy with anything. But is so easy to lump everyone into a box and say these general statements.
I've traveled the world and do not find it as dangerous as you do. I've been treated well by locals and never had problems including muslim and communist countries.
I've traveled the world as well but don't act like it's some great idea to expect the rest of the world to function like the west. That's how you end up with morons like the kid from the US being in prison for grabbing a sign in North Korea.
And obviously everything are general statements and then there's universal statements. Your statement is also anecdotal and not evidence of normal occurrences nor does it discredit legit reasons to fear what those cultures and countries can do. There's a reason why people aren't migrating to those places and are coming to the west.
I think it's pretty obvious which group of voters constantly bashes the country, hates its history and is known to burn our flag.

I was going to say the same thing. An acquaintance of mine is currently in a Turkish prison facing serious charges and there is no end in sight. It is a dangerous time to be an American in Turkey or to dissent from the government.
Would like to see revenge over that. Turkeys prez and his henchmen need to engage men instead of women. Real punks.
That is very true. In fact, Americans visiting other countries are often "protected" because those governments fear an incident could have serious ramifications.

I can't stand when people say EVERY voter in __________ party thinks ________ way. (All Democrats are godless heathens, all Republicans are racist bigots, etc, etc, etc)
I know some very liberal Republicans and some very conservative Democrats. In fact, I have a friend who is a gay atheist. He votes red. My mother is the most devoutly religious person I've ever met and considers "heck" a cussword. She votes blue.
The recent trend of white nationalism disguised as "patriotism' disgusts me, but I know those people have been brainwashed by right-wing media just as those who "hate" America have been brainwashed by the same forces on the left.
This is a nation of centrists. I just wish the wingnuts on both sides would understand this fact and shut their loud ass traps.
