Just saw where Tenn has offered TE Willie Rodriguez of Covington Catholic who has been committed to us for months

There was a time early this year that if UT had offered he may have went there. They had an in-home with him this week and he seems solid

Uk Te had 28 catches over 12 games between them all. So 2.-3 balls a game to our TE. Not great but bette then years past

This is exactly right. If you look at the other teams in the conference there are a couple that throw to the TEs a lot and they have elite TEs. Most teams are pretty close to where we are.

we had a couple TE's that should have been targeted way more. They constantly made plays but were targeted way to few of times.

Kattus was hurt a lot, if nit he would have had more catches

Will he even get significant playing time for us? He was a non factor in the state championship game.

I was looking forward to seeing him play, but they sure didn’t utilize him on offense. He looked pretty good on defense though. I don’t see how that team beat Paducah Tillman . Franklin County would beat them by 2 touchdowns and Corbin would have demolished them like Boyle did .

I don't think so at first, I would imagine he is an automatic redshirt, like most college freshmen because (while we may not use them) our TE room is pretty deep even with Senior and Portal losses. Which is fine, keeps that depth going, inspires competition. I hope we keep him in the fold. Good prospect and a KY kid

Thought he was signed in Dec.
Early signing period for 2023 is Dec 20-22.

Rodriguez will sign with UK during the early signing period. Coach Marrow shut down other TE recruiting because Rodriguez is firm to UK.

However, when you recruit good players, there will be interest and competition from other SEC schools. There was a time when former UK football coaches got around this by recruiting more instate players and other players not on the radar screens of other SEC programs. When Coach Stoops got here, he said at the beginning that he would pursue the best available players. That's what he has done. We seldom sign a player anymore who does not have at least 1-2 other SEC offers.

In our offense this year they had to be an extra Olineman because our line was so shitty
Also untrue. To illustrate how incorrect your comment is, UK is 3rd in the SEC in least sacks allowed, compared to being dead last in 2022. So this is comparing UK to UK, and not skewed by the number of snaps. We also have the #3 rusher in the SEC. Our OL isn't in the same class as the BBW of 2018, but it is better than 2022. Three TEs, Bates, Dingle, and Kattus, have played a lot. Roles are matched with ability. That's what coaches do. Kattus' best skill is blocking although he gets targeted occasionally. Dingle is primarily a receiver, while Bates is more experienced and handles both responsibilities fairly well. But not all TEs are like Brock Bowers. Dingle has missed a couple of November games with an injury. Khamari Anderson is going to be a terrific TE for us.

NFL is a passing league with most every team utilizing TE’s heavily. I don’t understand why KY running a pro style offense can’t figure it out
Because lately their O line has sucked. Not to mention Kentucky is a run first team regardless of all of the BS put out there. You’re a TE you come to Kentucky you’re going to be blocking for the RB 90% of the time.

Regarding use of TEs, Leary had a height issue and a lot of passes knocked down. Honestly believe he had trouble going over the middle. It might be significant to note that Vandagriffs senior year Hudl film shows a QB adept at hitting receivers in stride over the middle. Vandergrift also can really move. He will pressure LBs to make a decision. If they don't stick with TE, V appears to have the accuracy to make them pay. Film shows him throwing very well on the run.

I expect TE use to increase a lot next year.

UT is in panic mode. They lost a 5 star OL to Prime today that was number 1 OL man in class. Now the other one 4 star Boo Carter out of Cleveland Tn is about to follow him.

Excellent observation

I'll repeat this again...TN/Auburn are coming with these late offers because they've lost out on other more coveted players. That's not to take anything away from Rodriguez, he's an excellent talent. But if those schools were truly interested they would've offered sooner than days before signing day.

Auburn just had a TE named Fromm enter the portal. He's the brother of former GA QB Jake Fromm.

They also lost their #1 TE target from the portal.

Makes you wonder if they are behind Jordan Dingle hitting the portal???

Like you said. They are desperate right now.
