Just curious … How come ??

We never see or hear anything about Chris Rodriguez ?? To my view, he is our most talented returning player …

If you listen to opposing coaches before they play UK, they definitely don't overlook CRod.

Bottom line is most sports writers and or talk show guys are trying to be the first to name the next "up-and-coming / greatest thing" as that drives attention.

Coen talked about this last fall, CRod is a guy who you can't do much real stuff with in run drills in practices, he's too punishing. Save those hits in him & on defenders when live ammo is in use.

Now having said that, I expect CRod & McClain to be practically co starters this season. The younger back is a little more versatile & quicker.

One thing I love out of spring so far.....it's a given CRod is going to tote the rock quite a bit....but Scangerello ins't messing around with Smoke....it's all McClain is what I hear....which is plain to see he was superior to Smoke as backup role last year down the stretch.

CRod is great at what he does best — those hard 6 or 7 yard runs on first down — but there are other aspects of his game he doesn’t excel at. Like breakaway speed and ball security. Another thing I wonder about is, why is he so often on the sideline when we have crucial 3rd and 1, 4th and 1, short goal to go, etc situations? I was thrilled when he announced he was returning, mostly because I think he has a lot of room for improvement. He definitely has all-American potential, depending on what kind of offense we run this year.

If CRod has aspirations of playing at the next level, this offense should give him the opportunity to grow in to that. A straight up bruiser doesn't cut it in the NFL anymore, unless you are Derrick Henry. He should be able to flash some versatility in this offense. The use of the RB and TE will stress the linebackers in this offense.

Strikes me as more of the quiet type. Never talks about personal accolades or brings anything flashy. Not a bad thing - just who he is imo.

He could've left twice but said two years ago he wasn't declaring until he graduated like he promised his mother. How many players forego the NFL let alone twice to make good on that promise?

Also imo anyone doubting his speed will be surprised come combine time. Iirc he was never caught from behind his entire time here. Playing against the sec, that's saying something

Just reading the Tea leaves (and our new OC), I think he catches a boat load of passes out of the backfield this year...
That would be a great additional use of CR. Getting him outside the tackles where a DB or S has to try to tackle him 1v1 could produce a bunch of yards.

Yeah me too, see him chipping and releasing off the blocks a lot to ge the short dump passes and then let them try and tackle him. And he's show nice hands the limited times we've seen him in that role

I hope they can find a way to keep Lavell Wright happy and out of the transfer portal too. I think he has big potential.

I hope you are right. He is certainly deserving. I've missed most of these reports, it seems.
Subscribe to @Jeff Drummond ’s YouTube page and you can watch a great deal of those. Scranj and the OL have all talked about him. Because they know what he can do, others are getting looks. He is focusing on his receiving skills and Scranj says he is doing very well.

Just to clarify, how many passes are in a boat? Are cruise ships still considered to be a boat?

As a single reminder of Chris' uncommon talent, rewatch the go ahead TD run against Iowa.

If I'm not mistaken, the Iowa "would be tackler" led them in tackles for the year.

How many college backs, in the whole country, would've broken that tackle?

Big time play in a big moment. That's what he does.

I hear CRods run game is based on a
Don Jacobs promotion,...... it’s called the Push , Pull or Drag it in style.

On a serious note, just having CRod and Will Levis back on O is a huge relief. CRod runs & plays mad kinda like he’s ready to smash your face mask if you dare step in front uhh that freight train.

Not trying to throw any smoke Smoke’s way but if he can avoid injuries he has been a good back. Just has had a lot of injuries and headaches over his time here. If he is healthy he produces.
Smoke a whole year last year without injury and didn’t show much tackle breaking and burst in open space…/I’d say it’s McClain backup role now and Wright is no slouch

He ran third at the scrimmage Saturday. To La'Vell Wright I believe.
