just be glad they took the point away

I'm not sure a ref would call that against either team in the finals seconds of a game

Err.. why not? If someone is out of bounds, they are out of bounds. Also, does anyone know if this one is a reviewable play?

It shouldn't have even gone into OT. Between the no-call goal-tend and the phantom foul call on Ulis which resulted in 2 points for Ole Miss, that was a free 4 points for them.

Yes. I thought that was really stupid. That was a tight game, and you can't ignore the reality teams "play the scoreboard" in a situation like that.

It is important, even with 5-6 minutes left, to know whether you are in a tie game, a 1 pt game, etc.

Ole Miss called a time-out about 2 minutes after that made shot. Why did the refs not review it then? Do they have to wait for an official time-out?

Also, had they kept the point (incorrectly), it is possible that the game may still have gone to OT. Because again, to my original point, you "play the scoreboard". If you are down 3 with 2 seconds left, you don't shoot a lay-up. (Unless, of course, you are Sean Woods in Starkville.)

It never was in question.

They tried very hard to keep that point on the scoreboard. Go Cats!!

OK, I hope this ends some of the confusion.

The refs awarded three points but knew it was really close. The play was flagged for review. A couple of minutes later Ole Miss called a timeout. It was NOT the next media timeout which means it was a shorter stoppage of play (either 30 seconds or 60 seconds rather than 2.5 minutes for a media timeout). The replay guys at the table are notoriously slow at getting the replay queued up from every available angle. The first (and likely only) angle the refs got to see during that timeout was the one from the side which was partially obscured by a UK player. The timeout ended and rather than making a determination from that one replay or delaying the game for more angles, the officials deferred until the next media timeout (which is what they are supposed to do BY RULE). During that next media timeout, they got to see all available angles, and they made the right call without any noticeable delay in the resumption of the game.

The refs were pretty lousy in that game, and there is PLENTY to complain about, but I don't know why anyone would criticize their handling of this play (other than missing the original call, but it would have been reviewed either way). They got the call right. It took two timeouts, but only one full media timeout. And I don't think the game was particularly delayed. (If I recall correctly, SEC Network stayed with the broadcast during the second media timeout rather than going to commercial which might be why it seemed to some like it took too long to correct. My memory could be wrong on that point, but that's what I recall.)

Another trolling post from a troll.

Anyone remember his "The team in red should have won tonight" post from last evening that was deleted?

You're an idiot. First the troll, second, I didn't have any such post. Much less one deleted. Get your head out of your butt. Air smells fresher.

You can't assume that the game would have ended the same way and the point would have been the difference in us winning or losing. That one point would have caused some different scenarios for fouling and shot selection had it not been over turned. Same could be said for every missed free throw or any other reason a point wasn't earned or counted even though a goal tend or toe on line was not called.

Bottom line we did what we had to do to win and Ole Miss let a prime opportunity slip away.
