I agree. They have made a living doing just thatI trust our staff.
- played WR in high school
- switched to CB late, didn't get a chance to camp bc covid
- went d2
- went into portal
- small schools offered
- Oregon State came calling
- UK got him
6'4 baby. LFG. Our staff is very good at identifying talent and developing it.
Yep this is just the kind of kid Stoops has had great success with. He has the physical tools.I trust our staff.

Those guys came from JUCOs but point well taken. Again, this player can run and hit. Do those things in the SEC and you play.
Exactly, these freaking knuckleheads want to act like they know athletes better than a D1 staff, come on man.
I do wonder in all of the transfer stuff that we can't use D1 SEC kids for next year unless they've declared before certain dates (which is total bullcrap IMO)...so it may be that this kid can play right away and not sit a full year that we take him on.....and sounds like we're building depth not starters as of now. We just can't go into next year with 3 legit CBs on the roster (Valentine, Phillips, Reed is all I remember from spring game)....I guess Huey will be a CB and now this kid and potentially Keidron Smith will be CBs as well.
Both of those transfers last year were head scratchers for me.Sometimes you do what you have to do, lost Rickey Hyatt, the kid whose Dad was a UK grad and a pro, Devonshire, etc., who were all more highly rated, but didn't get it done here at UK, so all you can do is hope for the best.
It may be Stoops' specialty, but I hope Collins can prove he is a capable position coach with this crop of cadets. Last year was a disappointment with as much experience as we had at our disposal. We are not thin at secondary, we are young & inexperienced. Plenty of depth & bodies. Just gotta find a reliable corner opposite Valentine.
Corner development is Stoops speciality, I trust a good unit will develop in 2022.
I disagree, at least a little bit. Valentine wasn’t great last, should be better this year with experience. Phillips is getting the talk, at least this Spring, as the other. Very limited snaps. You get past those guys, teams like OM, UT (bunch sets and motion), MSU, they’ll eat young corners alive. Hopefully, the DLine stays healthy this year and we don’t have to lean on the secondary as much.We are not thin at secondary, we are young & inexperienced. Plenty of depth & bodies. Just gotta find a reliable corner opposite Valentine.

Jordan Lovett at safety also. There isn't a ton of depth... even inexperienced depth.
As stated above, CB depth currently looks like by class:
SR: txfr Keidron Smith
JR: Carrington Valentine
SO: Andru Phillips, txfr Jordan Robinson
FR(RS): Maxwell Hairston, Adrian Huey
FR (True): Elijah Reed, Andre Stewart, Kobi Albert
That's 9 CBs
For the Safeties
SR: Ajian
JR: Joel Williams, Tisdale (OUT for 2022), Geiger, Dodson
SO: None
FR: Alex Afari
That's 5 safeties...
14 guys for essentially 5 spots (or 6 when in the Dime package for the many spread offenses). So, it isn't terrible from a number standpoint, it is super deep and is pretty inexperienced

I expect Jordan Lovett to be the breakout defense player of the season. I've watched the spring game several times already and he's impressive. He has natural instincts to play safety.
If the DC can't figure out how to get pressure on the QB, this year will be no different than last year against Ms. State and UT, and I believe Ole Miss is back on the schedule also.Andru Phillips is the wild card. Great get as a recruit. Hopefully will be SEC capable this year. The D line will be the key. If the 3 down lineman can be sold vs. the run with some type if pocket pressure, the veteran linebackers can help support the younger secondary. There will be some frustrating times as the D will give up yards and 1st downs but will hopefully avoid the Miss State and Tenn performances. UKs offense will be the best defense keeping the D off the field. Not a year where UK can afford injuries after losing one DB starter.
My thing is this player can run and arrives angry, two attributes that will get PT in the SEC. His will be a fun career to follow. Will say this about the guy. There is a poster on HOB who only drops in to post scoop on rare occasions, but he is absolutely money and he hinted at this guy a week or two ago (obviously didn't give his name). Said that the staff got tipped off early on him and were doing their best to keep him off the grid because they knew other big schools would get involved. Sounds like they love the potential and feel that they got a steal.
Ryan Lemond just echoed this on KSR. Said he has been on board with UK for a bit and the staff absolutely did not want the news to get out till yesterday. Will say this about the guy.
