Jontay Porter

I'm still trying to figure out how all these guys randomly reclassify.....summer school?
They take online classes through Alabama.

Most are held back at some point, like their freshmen year.
The easiest way is to simply get the GED and move on if they are going to be 18 during the school year.

Mizzou and there fans will be the next school to find out that great recruiting classes do not mean automatic wins on the court..

Jontay Porter and his brother both homeschooled. The academic requirements were fulfilled long ago, this was just a matter of Jontay wanting to play against high level AAU competition over the summer.

Not many kids homeschool though so how they fulfill their academic requirements is an entirely different question.

The UNC scholastic school system in effect.

Again, that's not what is happening here at all.

When is the last time with a class ranked (expected to be top 3 after the Jontay Porter reclassification) this high didn't win enough games to at least make the tournament?

Cunzo is certainly coming in with a bang at Mizzou. I would think that they should be a top team in the SEC and easily make the tourney.

To the Mizzou fan in here, how is your OOC schedule looking like? Any big match ups?

His going rate at schools he coaches at is about 3 to 4 years now. Do you feel he will be good enough to take a bunch of freshmen to the tourney?? Even the mighty coach k has had trouble the last few years doing it..

Martin is a much better coach than Jones at LSU. I expect a better season for these Tigers with the Porters than those Tigers with Simmons and Blakeney.

Washington...? Cute that you guys wanna play with the big boys. What happens when the Porter bloodline runs dry? I'll tell you what...one in the NBA, one in Shanghai or Istanbul and daddy porter careying Lavar's jock on the AAU circuit until the last "L'...." has left the nest. Quit trying to equate a windfall of similar DNA with tradition. Don't lose sight of the fact that Cuonzo is still your coach. Perspective.

When did Washington have a top 5 class? Please link me to that one. The 2016 class was ranked #30 last year with Fulsz. Same goes for LSU with Simmons. That wasn't a top 5 class either. It was ranked 10th according to 247.

I'm not saying Mizzou will be great but I think they will make the tournament.

Cuonzo already did it at Cal two years ago when they were a 4 seed with Ivan Rabb and Jaylen Brown.

We have Iowa State in game one but they probably won't be great this year though they have a ton of transfers so its tough to say. Second game is November 16th vs Utah in Salt Lake City. That will be a really good test. Utah was solid last year and returns 4 starters so they should be a tournament team. If Mizzou wins that one then it bodes well for the team and league.

After that we have a tournament where we might get to play WVU over thanksgiving.

We also have our annual slate against Illinois who should be slightly better.

Nothing great but the Utah game will be interesting.

M Porter will battle for best player in the country this season. Id imagine they will be somewhat like Texas was with Durant. Good at times, crap at others. Dont think Martin is equipped right now to take a new team like this and make it work.

Just in the last five years there have been six teams with a Top 5 class to miss the tournament.
2016 NC State #5 ranked class
2015 Ohio St #5
2014 UNLV #4
2013 Indiana #4
2012 UK #1
2012 Baylor #4

Now with that said, I expect Mizzou to make the tournament but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't either. They went 8-24 last year so will see if adding the Porter Bros can make up a ten game difference. I expect Mizzou to be in the 5-9 seed range come tournament time.
