Johni Broome….from Morehead St. to POY candidate

Pretty amazing story for Broome. I think MSU was one of only a couple D1 offers he had coming out of HS. I believe he had a growth spurt and grew like 3-4 inches between his Sr year of HS and Fr year of college.

I saw him play a few times at MSU and thought he was pretty good but not sure I saw POY level good. I don’t recall if Cal even made an attempt to get him to UK. Anyone know?

Not prioritizing Broome was always nuts. We already had Oscar and Broome would have covered a lot of his flaws. It’s indicative of Cal’s change from “I can’t hide you here” and “this isn’t communism” to “I’m not gonna take that kid’s heart”. We chose to roll with Jacob Toppin instead, and Broome landed in our conference.

High ankle sprain and the article I saw said he would be out 3-4 weeks. IDK if it's true.

You mean the same Jacob Toppin that fans would swear to you was Michael Jordan reincarnated…..until he finally got the starting role?

Send me a link to a thread of people begging for Broome rather than Toppin pre-2023 and I’ll buy it. No one saw Broome becoming this.
