I always said that when he failed to win another title in the 2010-2017 period, that’s when he realized he’d never be considered in the GOAT convo….so he fed his ego the only other way he could and that was by touting that he put the most players in the league; that HIS players (not Kentucky) made up half the NBA Allstar game, that HIS guys had this much money in NBA contracts over his career. It was the one thing he could claim GOAT status at and it became his sole driver..team development be damned. There is a show on the VICE channel called the Razor's Edge. It's about Cal at his new job with the hogs. Watch that and it will answer all of your questions about Cal and his motivations. He basically robbed this university of millions of dollars while he ran his own personal ego stroking operation. Screw that guy.
Had he won 3 of 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017….he would have continued to be motivated firstly by titles imo as it directly fees the ego and chases the GOAT status. Instead, he struck out 5 of 6 times that he had a real contender, if not the favorite, and realized his career was over 2/3rds finished and it would be all but impossible to win 3 or more….all while that reality was sinking in, the number of NBA players was climbing and touting that accomplishment could hide the underachieving on the court. Classic case of moving the goal post
All about Cal feeding his ego and framing his “legacy” in the best light in his opinion….highlight the thing that sets you apart instead of ppl saying “all that talent and only 1 title”
