He has all the tools, just needs maturity. Hope he stays around for 2 or more years. The problem with developing players at Kentucky is that they sometimes get recruited over. Maybe he turns out to be so good that he and Sheppard get the starting reins for 2024/25.
that is true of any school/coach you recruit the best players you can get

If we can hang onto him for at least a cpl seasons, this is a great get. I really like his game & think he could be a significant contributor & foundational piece, starting next season. These are the types of kids we need to build our roster around. Guys with skill who can, eventually, be high level role players & leaders & possibly develop into much more, over 2-4 years.

Get a handful of them & then add a cpl of high level FR & a cpl of transfers every season & then we have the makeup of an actual team with a nice mix of experience, cohesion & talent. Replacing the vast majority of the rotation every season & having to rely on FR & transfers who have never played together isn’t healthy for a program. It’s basically flying by the seat of your pants & crossing your fingers, hoping it’ll click by March.

I think most of us are beyond sick of that approach, too. But, Hart, Burks, Sheppard, Thiero & hopefully Cyril is a great start if we can keep them here. Then there’s the possibility that UGO returns & we add Travis Perry. That would be a damn good core to build around, IMO.

But, until I see reason to believe otherwise, I don’t have much faith in Calipari retaining all, or, most of them long enough to make a difference. I know it’s tough for any coach to keep a team together in the portal era. But, our coach has had this problem long before the portal was even a possibility. I really hope he proves me wrong, though.

Happy to have him! You never know with freshmen regardless of their ranking. I know the FDU game…but Purdue was a top team last year that relied heavily on a freshman kid very similar in pedigree to Hart in Braden Smith. Smith was their second best player last year.

247 composite information for the two of them:
197 and 198 on 247 number 8 and 9 in Indiana

While it wouldn’t be a fair expectation to put on Joey, it’s also not fair to dismiss him for his ranking on such a big day for him and his family.

At least he wants to be here. That alone is hard to find currently it seems.

I figured Fredrick would be getting a much lower amount of minutes this season, which is why he transferred, so those MPG will likely go to Hart, like Dontaie Allen’s role his first two years here.

Honestly no matter who the coach is in 2024-2025 they probably recruit over Hart. New coach is gonna bring n a bunch if transfer portal guys and bring some of his guys from former school (if say an Oats or muss) so gonna be an uphill climb for Hart regardless.

Since he will be completing with other freshmen for playing time, assuming Reeves doesn't return, I believe you will a lot of Mr. Hart on the floor next fall. He makes me think of Herro, maybe more athletic. But will he have the drive and confidence of Herro?

I hate to be a negative Nancy but getting this dude is just not exciting at all. Attempts to hype him up feels like the BCG days haha. It will be a miracle if this guy sticks around and becomes a good player for us.

What experienced players are left? Go the grad transfer route?
Well reeves is the most important and they should be working to get that done. Then you have Jordan brown, after that maybe the Tulane guy a lot of rumors he grad transfers and then you have the WVA situation and if they fire Huggins they brough in 5-6 guys who would probably leave if he gets fired which he should

They should. That would be a dandy tandem

Joey Hart, you're the next contestant on "Kentucky players who transfer before reaching their potential"!

Seriously though, I hope Joey stays four years and becomes a reliable veteran. That would be a refreshing change.

Don't agree at all that he will play a lot. Dilly, Wagner and shep will get all the minutes at 1 and 2.

Perhaps he can get time at the 3 when edwards needs a breather? Idk. Thiero factors in there as well but if Bradshaw is out thiero may have to be our 4.
