JH family wants him to stop reffing

Listen to your family John....Retire, because you're not doing your job very well.

For his family wanting him to retire so bad after this incident tells me. This isn't the first time it has happened to him from other fan bases (maybe not the rumored death threats) but the other stuff.

I do not believe that he received over 25,000 hate calls and messages...

This guy is showing his narcissism. Seeking out attention, making bogus claims about the amount of hate calls and post he's getting. Playing victim.

He's the exact man we thought he was and it just about proves to me he knew the whole time what he was doing. Just listen to this crap. Totally unprofessional for an official to be making known his grievance with another program.

Even if you are dumb and agree with him you must accept that Barnhart need to ban him from calling UK games at home.

Yeah, cause this stuff makes national news every year.

I'm not saying it doesn't ever happen cause I'm sure it probably does but not on this scale. When is the last time that you turned on ESPN on CNN and saw a story like this? I can't ever remember seeing a story like this myself. Some may question the number of fans who did do this and they might be right but it was enough to draw national attention and that's obviously more than enough.

I can't understand why so many want to act as though this is an everyday occurrence and why so many take offense when people say otherwise. Some are taking it so personal. I'm not saying anything good about Higgins cause he sucks at what he does on the court but everyone is acting as though you're a Higgins sympathizer if you aren't on board with what was done to Higgins. That's not the case at all. I just knew the media would spin things around and make Higgins the victim. And that's exactly what happened.

Homie, we made national news for being racist wanting Tubby freakin Smith removed after a decade long final four drought.

Think about that and then apply context to the attack on UK fans from the media regarding this incident. It doesn't take much for them to HATE YOU, as evident by the crap we've endured going back to Hall. This is a southern program "hicks" and the elite media (especially northeast) where basketball is popular HATES that.

That Higgins thing made us out to look like idiots.... he did a really poor job. He did not deserve that type of criticism from a fan base..

affecting the guys business and threatening is crossing the line.. calling the NCAA ref association is how you effectively criticize him. This may make them think about him reffing our games anymore

I'm not completely disagreeing with you on your point because I don't think it takes a lot for them to hate on us. But I've spoken to 2 very prominent D1 officials who told me that these things do occur from time to time with some fan bases but not anywhere to this scale. See the thing is that everyone on this board is just going by what they think happens. Nobody knows that this happens on this scale, it's just what they want to believe. That's fine but I just tend to believe my eyes and ears and both tell me that this is not a "normal" situation that happens all the time with lots of different fan bases. Hell, most fan bases don't even care enough to go see their team play. Now I'm supposed to believe that they send thousands of hate mail and death threats to officials? Come on bro. Again, I'm not saying anything for Higgins and he sucks at what he does but that doesn't mean that I have to condone the actions of some idiot fans. That's just my opinion anyway. Everyone is entitled to feel how they want about it.

Anyone else a little disappointed in our fans lack of creativity in all of this?

Get a billboard in Omaha that says "Roofing companies shouldnt be owned by officials who dont know the difference between inside and outside a cylinder" with a diagram of a basketball hoop.

Send flowers to him that reads "Your bad officiating killed my grandma"

Ship him a sex doll in the image of Scratch..wearing a UK jersey. Have a card reading "now you can do your favorite past time all year round"

but nope.......just vulgar half threats over a phone... how unoriginal.

Translation:

I've made enough money on side bets to send my great great grandkids to college. My family thinks I should quit while I'm ahead. But I do love the attention so...

At this point it has been 9 days. 9 days = 216 hours.

25000 calls or posts/216 hours = 116 calls/hr for 9 straight days. I call BS.
total BS. haha I mean that is calling 24/7 I don't think his roofing business is open all day every day at best 8 hours a day so we are looking more like 72-108 hours so we are looking at 231 calls an hour..that is 3.8 calls a minute for 12 hours, hell at that rate no one would even be able to threaten him haha...this dude is a dufus that is liking the spot light, but first game next season the refs are gonna hose us big time. its gonna be brad vs the starting 5 of whatever university after about 10 mins of play

He needs to quit reffing, bc he is terrible/incompetent and clearly motivated by his bias. Those are not good qualities for a presumably impartial participant.

For someone who is supposed to be scared for his life he sure loves seeking out media attention.

If I had that many people mad at me I'd be walking on eggs. Someone in that group might be mad enough and bad enough to be serious.

I wouldn't stand next to him in a crowd.

We made an offer he couldn't refuse

I am in total support of him ending his attempts to referee basketball games. He's clearly not good at what he does - or else he is getting some "guidance" from other places. I would applaud his retirement from refereeing - and would celebrate the event.

I'm not convinced he has received that volume of "feedback" from dissatisfied fans. It'a crossing the line for someone to put out death threats or other types of serious threats. There are a few nut jobs out there in any fan base that would probably resort to that type of behavior. They should be dealt with appropriately.

I'm just hoping he does give it up. It would make me very happy.
