Met Luke Kennard's grandmother at our hotel heading to the game. She mentioned how much they still love Cal & UK. Real nice family.

I assume she was happy UK won.[winking]

who is luke kennard?

"Recruits who are dead to us" for $1000, Mr. Trebek.

Haha! Poor Kennard. Grew up a UK fan and his momma loves Calipari, but he went to Duke instead. Oh well, you can't win em all. Who would we have lost from the class had he signed? Briscoe? Murray? If so, no thanks.

He wasn't to big of a UK fan. Maybe his parents but not him. I think that story was fabricated a little bit.

He was a UK fan. Just not a die hard UK fan. The difference is a regular fan will watch with family and say go cats... a die hard watches the games no matter what and plans life around the games. Any other coach in america and we land him 100% certain but with Coach Cal and the way he has his teams play.... L.K. just wouldnt of fit in and Duke did a great job of selling that point.

I don't know the kid or his family but from gathering info from those who do know his family and also reading what the duke insiders said last year.... is how I base my statement above.

I have to believe he lacks the athleticism to truly excel in Cal's system; certainly from a defensive standpoint.

He's in the right place to best take advantage of his skill set.

living in Ohio I heard quite a bit about the kid. I never really thought he'd reach his potential due to the competition at UK but I would have gladly taken him.

If he were a die hard fan he would have came to UK (glad he didnt). Tell you right now if my son grows up and is fortunate enough to play in college and get a scholly, he has one school choice, that's it. Of course he'll play football ... unless he's much taller than me, not many 6'1 225 basketball players around lol. Idc if UK football still sucks or not, that is where he will go.

Honestly, I don't know why UK fans are so hard on him. I understand getting upset that he picked Duke over UK, but I feel like the more we watch him play, the more we'll recognize that perhaps it was the best choice for all of us.

His decision helped open the door for us to land Jamal Murray. Would any of you want to go through this season with Kennard instead of Murray?

I'm definitely happy we landed Murray instead of Kennard. But the real question is, is one year of Murray greater than 4 years of Kennard? Not sure I know the answer to that one. If Luke is JJ Reddick Jr by his senior year, some may not be as happy how it all worked out.

Although since we now have a freshman Monk coming in next year over a sophomore Kennard, I'm pretty certain we'll be okay at shooting guard for at least another year;)

No way this kid "loved UK". It doesn't work that way. I am ready to move on. In fact UK did move on by signing Murray and now Monk. I would say UK moved on in a BIG way by getting two players much better than the Ohio Kid who went to Duke.

My guess is Mulder would have been the one Cal wouldnt have offered.

But this will work out better anyway. Neither player would have likely seen much time. At least Mulder will clear up a scholly after next season.

My take is the kid didn't want to come here and compete or knew if he did he'd never see the floor. Didn't look like he belonged on the same court as our guys. Think he chose wisely.

Is there a more effective way of having your BBN fandom revoked than choosing to play at Duke over UK?

From the little I have seen of him I have not been impressed. I don't think he fits the mold of a player who would ever play any significant minutes at UK.

Same fans that get on to Arkansas fans for Monk, trash him. I wish the best for him, but hope Duke loses every game by 30.

He made a bad choice and he will have to live with it. Doesn't make him an enemy.

Cal taught Lamb how to play defense.

Of course not. Kentucky fans weren't booing him, either.

To another poster above, Kennard is pretty much just a shooter at this level. He's not driving by anyone. He's not out rebounding anyone. He's not a point guard. He's not a great defender. So if his shot isn't falling, he's pretty much a non-contributor. And that's where he is right now. Some guys can find other ways to contribute when their shots aren't falling, but he has no other way.

For the most part the guys that are most liable to fall for the Coach K tears and poetry are the soft kids. They were very fortunate with Winslow who wanted to play with Jones and Okafor.

On the surface, sure, it sounds unfathomable that a supposed "life-long UK fan" would spurn a UK offer to go to Duke, and it would be easy to label him a traitor or somehow dishonorable.

But as several others alluded to in this thread... would he have actually been a good fit at UK in Cal's system?? I see his game, and then I look at Ulis, Briscoe, Murray* on our side, plus Fox and Monk coming in next year--whose minutes would he be able to take?

If Kennard picked UK, he very possibly might not have ever seen the floor other than mop up minutes, a la Jon Hood (a one time 5* recruit and eventual high 4* recruit). Doesn't mean he can't play, just that he isn't a fit for Cal.

Look at Wiltjer. He probably would never have started a game for UK as a Jr. or Sr., and at Gonzaga he's one of the leading contenders for the Wooden award.

*Had we struck out completely and missed on Murray, then I might feel a lot differently about losing Kennard to Duke

Some of you guys sound like the Arkansas fans talking about Monk. The kid and his family made what they thought was the best decision for his future. They probably made the right decision because I don't see him cracking into our rotation this year or next. It's a win/win situation...we were able to get Murray and Luke is able to get minutes at Duke. Go Cats!!!

Cal taught Lamb how to play defense.

That's not true. Lamb was a great defensive player in high school. He had to guard Jared Sullinger in a game and shut him down. Held him to like 4 points despite giving up 4 inches and like 60+ pounds.

Lambs issue on defense was always effort. Whenever he made defense a priority he was really good.

But when he was at Oak Hill he was by far their best defensive player and one of the best they've had in recent years.

Wow! I've read some ridiculous posts in this thread that make UK fans look petty and stupid. Luke was a big UK fan his entire life. I saw it firsthand. He simply believed that Duke was a better fit.
The kid will also play a lot at Duke and would have here too. He'll be in the NBA one day. It's time to stop with the "Jilted Lover" mentality over Kennard.

Kennard will be a good player at Duke and be a huge player for them. He will be there 4 years.c he would b recruited over as long as Cal is here.

He would have been a roll player here much like Kyle Wiltjer. It has been great for Kyle and it will be the same for Luke.

Go Big Blue!

Luke will graduate with a degree from Duke. That is the best option for his future going forward, and I don't blame him one bit for making the choice that he made.

I wish the kid the best, even if I will uncontrollably yell, "SWEEP THE LEG, JOHNNY!" every time he's in full view of my TV screen.
