He was just interviewed on ESPN show.. Get up.

He is against having the tourney next week.

Not good.

I get what he is saying, and if a player/coach has tested positive and has exposed other players that is probably going to happen. But if not, why not let these kids play in a closed environment and get to have their march madness dreams come true. We are much more likely to spread this in restaurants, bars, airports, etc than in an empty gym with kids playing basketball.

My question is will it eventually reach every place, even with the cancellation of games and schools...Is it going to make a difference or will most of us experience this covid-19?

I've had flu vaccine and still got the flu same season....This situation is worse because the vaccines for covid-19 are not ready. But still, could people be susceptible even with a vaccine?

Barkley and all the NBA guys are saying the same thing. They're probably right though. Unfortunately I think sports are officially done until we have an effective vaccine. It might be an overreaction, but better safe than sorry I guess.

It's not about stopping the spread; it's about slowing it down so that the medical community can catch up. Otherwise you end up with a situation like in Italy where they are out of respirators and are actively deciding who to treat and who not to.

My question is this; if we are so concerned about spreading this virus, shutting down campuses, shutting down sporting events, why are we sending elementary, middle and high school kids to school? Germs are spread there too.

I bet they will start shutting down more schools next week.

Exactly. You overload the medical system here and you have an even bigger disaster.

The tournament won't be played, the derby won't be run, the Olympics will be canceled. Weve gone full crazy. The adults left the room a long time ago. We are now governed by big children who operate 100% on emotion and sensationalize everything they can.

Hey make sure to turn the lights out when you leave.

Money.

I think local school districts are waiting for a state of emergency to be declared, so as to ensure that they can get funding before they call off.

Our local district has about 15 snow days baked into the calendar, and has only used 1.

It is anticipated that they will soon use a week or two of those, while also using the next few days to prep for "teleschool".

It is, at this point, almost certainly inevitable a good portion of the country is/will be infected. The key is to limit the spread as much as possible as to not overload the hospitals and ICUs. The symptoms range from nothing to deadly pneumonia and Italy is already experiencing the inability to treat everyone.

Imagine an event like a terrorist bombing in a major city, victims could be transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment but with this type of thing if we let it ramp up too quickly there won't be any hospitals left to take in people, and people with other conditions that need treatment may be delayed.

The school closings are just a matter of when. My guess is we find out today, keep it quiet until tomorow afternoon, and spend today and tomorrow planning for NTIDs for a week or two, maybe until after spring break.

Dont forget baseball, baseball and Opening day are down the proverbial pipe too.

We are screwed

No MASTERS tournament could be possible too. There is time before that tournament but it will be time here for that in less than a month

We had our first pro athlete yesterday test positive for coronavirus, we don’t know when he got it, how long he has had it and who he has been in contact with since. What happens if a NCAA athlete catches the virus and he isn’t testing until it is too late? This isn’t being crazy this is being cautious, this disease is spreading there is no vaccine yet we don’t want what happened in Italy to happen here

I hate to agree with this but it is true. It is smart to play the games without fans in the stands. Not playing them at all is an overreaction. This goes for all sports.

This is where rationality goes out the window. Unless you literally shut down communities, or have mandatory home lockdowns then what difference is there in having a game played in front of a 100 people versus going to a restaurant, movie, church, amusement park, or literally walking around in a big city? I'm not sure how any player is in any more harm playing in these conditions then they are going out with a bunch of friends to party or pub.

College players and students will get the corona, whether they play the tournament or not. Canceling the tournament, as it’s being played in empty arenas, will slow the spread of the virus 0%

Because traveling around the country and closely interacting with other people is exactly how diseases spread.

If no one in Town A has it and all of them stay in town A, they are less likely to get it than if we take 30 people from Town A and fly them to towns B-G and then bring them home.

That's my question. Why is public transportation still running?

Let’s say you’ve received 10 inches of rain where you live.

Do you think it makes a big difference if that amount of rain fell in one two hour period versus over a 5 month period? You still receive the same amount of total rainfall in both scenarios.

I work in a school. Word is all schools are waiting to see what Fayette County schools do. If they close down, the rest of the state will follow. Could happen as early as Monday. Will probably know more by tomorrow.

Young athletes don't die from this. In fact it's closer to a simple common cold for a young healthy person.

It’s not about the young people dying from it it’s about them possibly infecting someone who could die from it.

Rudy Gobert is going to be fine but what if he got his head coach or a older assistant infected who can’t handle it?

Same tired old question...how is that different from the flu?

I'll answer for you....its not

As of yesterday, there were 5,794 cases in Daegu, South Korea. Of those, 2,304 required hospitalization.

So 40% of the people who caught it required serious medical treatment at a hospital. South Korea has been rapidly converting dorms and training facilities into makeshift hospitals to deal with all of the patients. There were about 2,000 who needed to go to the hospital last week but couldn’t because there was no room for them.

That sounds like the flu to you?
