Jaxson Robinson makes Julius Irving Award preseason top 20 watchlist

So we have a pre-season player of the year candidate, 2 or 3 of last season’s best defenders, 2 or 3 of last season’s best shooters, and a top ~30 freshman who is 2 years out of high school and people are afraid to put us in the top 25. Totally makes sense.
It's ridiculous. Anyone who knows anything about basketball would put this team solidly in the top 20 at this point with a ceiling well into the top 10.

This essentially means he's considered no worse than a top 50 college player and a top 10 small forward. He certainly looked the part last night. And I hope some of our other guys can earn their way onto the mid-season lists and earn some hardware at the end of the year. But it's nice that we likely have a top level player we can look to. I must say, I love the Butler/Oweh/Robinson backcourt so far!

Robinson’s shot looks silky-smooth and NBA ready. The 1-3 spots on the line-up are set with Butler/Oweh/Robinson and some great back-ups. It’s these 3 that have me believing this is a top 10 team.
Would love to see him follow Reeves into the NBA after returning for a fifth year at UK.

We're not going to tell much from exhibitions, but I'm extremely worried about rebounding and defense to start the season. We have good individual defenders, but team defense leaves a lot to be desired right now. KW couldn't capitalize on being left open in transition, but MSM could.

Getting out-hustled for rebounds by short spunky kids doesn't bode well for matchups against much better teams with much bigger players.

I don't honestly know what the antidote is, but I wish a reporter would ask Pope about that because it's frustrating watching a 6'5" dude get a rebound that one of our bigs just watches sail.

Granted, we've only played exhibition games. The gloves come off on Monday. Here's hoping we click better when it matters more. We can be a top 10 team, easy. Just hoping we can realize our potential.

I'd seen a fair bit of BYU last season and when we got him, I said there was 0 reason he couldn't be as good (or even better than) Antonio Reeves. A lot to like as an NBA prospect as well. Elite shooter, elite positional length, upward growth trajectory.

Also extremely young for a 5th year senior. For reference he is only 12 months older than Justin Edwards. Shocking, but true.

Agree and with how we look on offense already I think our ceiling is pretty high. Obviously team defense will determine how far we go but I love what this team has in every area.

Brea is a knockdown shooter, he won’t get 20 a game but he can hit 7-8 3’s some nights.
I remember reading about him, being the best shooter last year in college. Just seems I haven’t noticed him impact the games….yet. I hope he’s not one of those guys that disappears 3 or 4 games at a time.

I originally became a Dr. J fan from the ABA days. Coach Rupp was with the Colonels in some capacity (GM maybe), and I either heard or read where Rupp said Dr. J was the best player he had ever seen. That was before I had ever seen Dr. J. I'm still a huge Dr. J fan, pure class. I still have an autographed poster of Dr. J in my office/man cave.

Any thread regarding Dr. J needs a video. Even back then, there were guys that could jump as high as him. But nobody did it with the grace, style, finesse that he did. Dr. J elevated the game of basketball to a form of art. Basketball is the most beautiful of all sports, and no one showed that more than Dr. J.
