BB Recruiting Jarren Williams to Cats Illustrated: UK is number one

If anyone were ever 100% committed at any point in time, it still means that suddenly becoming anything less at any point makes that 100% a complete lie that never should have been said.

I just can't understand how it has become so prominent in nearly all recruit's vernacular these days. Weren't they taught better than making such a statement in HS English class, at least?

100% means there's absolutely zero room for wavering at any point in your recruiting history. I only want recruits to phrase things differently and eliminate this entire 100% debacle. "Couldn't be happier", "Thrilled to take the field", "Can't imagine finding a more suitable place for me", "I love how Kentucky fans have made me feel so welcome", etc.

Say whatever you want. PLEASE stop using comments that only stand to make you a downright liar if you have a change of mind as a young 17 year old man has been known to do.

100% leaves no future wiggle room. At all. It is silly and a poor way to win over the fans of your committed school by ensuring them that your commitment is permanent & always will be.

I think it's just the opposite and show pure honesty. When he or any kids says they are 100% committed that is what they are feeling at the time they say it. Up to that point they have not seen anything else that would make them change their mind so in their mind they are 100% committed. Don't know why this is that hard to understand for grown ups to understand how kids react. They don't sit down with an attorney and formulate a brief that outlines their commitment level. They are 18 and excited and getting ready make a huge decision with everybody trying to sway them their way.

Now that the big boys and I mean big boys are after him it's natural to start doubting your early decision. He has big name coaches, other big name players, and probably writers/experts in his ear questioning his decision too. So I think it's natural and expected for a kid to say, "since I'm having some doubt let me just clear my commitment so I can start over an re-evaluate all of this because it's coming at me pretty hard"

Decommitting probably is a way of relieving some of the pressure he's feeling at the time and I think its natural.

Should they just wait and stop committing early and saying they're 100% COMMITTED, . . . sure they should but again they are 18 and are only reacting to what they know at the time. I guarantee when he committed to us he thought that was the greatest thing in the world at that time and we had everything he wanted and that means I'm all in. Doubt he thought he could find anything better. If the others hadn't come along no doubt he would still be feeling that way (and still may at the end) But circumstances change and that kids though processes change because of those changes.

I know we'd all feel better if they said something like, "I'm 72.5% committed" but the reality is that's not true either; because after they get the offer, visit, fall in love with the coaches and facilities, in their mind they are 100%! Things change because circumstances change.

That said I hope like heck he sees the opportunity here and comes back because he is the kind of kid that can make a real difference.

Excellent post.

I certainly wouldn't count on that happening. I am fine to move on without him. I honestly wonder how many of those big time offers were commitable. If I was Stoops I would have a hard time taking a commitment from him. We can't miss out on very good QB prospects to wait on him or have him go elsewhere at the last minute. I think it is over.
Jarren has been committed to Kentucky for months, so it isn't surprising that he still has a high opinion of our program. But it is rare for a player to decommit and then recommit to the same school. Denzel Ware did it, but I can't think of another example. So I think Jarren is gone. But it's only April, so Darrin Hinshaw has plenty of time to sign a quarterback. Coach Hinshaw is pretty good at this. It took him about a month to find and sign Stephen Johnson. Last year, after Mac Jones decommitted, Coach Hinshaw went out and got Danny Clark. There are already rumors that Kevin Doyle might be coming to Kentucky. Coach Hinshaw will find us another capable SEC quarterback.

No I think that's just part of the problem. Kids today just pick up on the go to fad phrases everybody else uses and the "100% all in" thing has become one of them. It's not meant to be taken literally it's just an expression of how they are "feeling it". That's another one!!

But I do still feel MOST mean it when they say it and are feeling pretty solid on the choice they've made til something kills that feeling or at least makes them start thinking.

This committing thing is a two-way street. Not saying it happened here but some schools pressure kids to commit early for a variety of reasons. It's not all on the player.

I don't see even a one percent chance that a kid decommits with offers from schools like LSU, Bama and FSU, then recommits to UK.

Like I said, I believe Jarren is gone, and Coach Hinshaw will recruit another effective quarterback for that scholarship.
