No one in the 2017 class has had a better two weeks of all star play than Kentucky commit Jarred Vanderbilt.

The 6-8 combo forward from Bellaire (Texas) Victory Prep High School made his initial positive impression during the McDonald's All American Game practices. Vanderbilt, who has always had great instincts for the game, was on another level than the other forwards in regards to his level of activity and engagement in all areas of the game. With improved strength and quickness, Vanderbilt chased down rebounds and loose balls, created turnovers and both initiated and finished the fast break.

Along with his improved physique, Vanderbilt also showed an improved lefty shooting stroke from outside. His lack of outside shooting ability has been the consistent knock on his game.

In the McDonald's game Vanderbilt only took two shots but did grab six rebounds. In the Nike Hoop Summit game, however, Vanderbilt was the man of the game as far as I'm concerned.

In just 19 minutes of play, he produced 19 points on 8-12 shooting, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Also, he was the pivotal force for the USA swinging the game its direction against the World team with his play at the top of the press during a stretch in the second half.

A highly skilled player (great passer) with functional athleticism and instincts, Vanderbilt is ranked No. 17 in the Top247 and No. 20 in the 247Sports Composite. With these aspects of his game only improving and his improved physique and shooting, Vanderbilt will be in the top 10 of the final edition of the Top247.
