There was a post about Jared Prickett and Jamal Magloire. I guess the mods took it down. But, when I read the thread that followed, I was astounded that almost nobody (except Ganner) knew who Jared Prickett was. So . . .

Jared Prickett was a 6’9”, 235 PF from Fairmont, WVa. Played in all 34 games as a freshman (511 minutes) for the Mashburn-led team of 1992-93. Got hurt in the 5th game of his junior season in 1995-96 and got a medical redshirt, but missed playing on the NCAA Championship team. He was one of the leaders as a senior on the 1996-97 team that went to the NCAA Final Game. Played the third-most minutes on that team (behind only Mercer and Anthony Epps). Averaged 8 ppg and 6 rpg. Nazi and Prickett were No 1 and No 2 rebounders for that team. Nazi had 226 rebounds. Prickett had 225 rebounds. Prickett ended his career with 998 points – one bucket short of the revered “1,000 point club.”

I started to respond to the Prickett confusion myself, but am weakened by the Duke loss and poor showing so far this season.

My friend, I am similarly weakened - but, frankly, not unexpectedly so. I tried to use the thread about Jared Prickett to bootstrap myself out of the melancholy that will surely overhang yet another season. Alas.

Seen quite a bit of basketball over my 50 plus years and can't say I feel real good about what I've witnessed so far. Strange things happen over the course of a long season but my Spidey senses are tingling in all the wrong places. Nothing would make me happier than to be completely wrong as a die hard Big Blue fan.

Don't think I've ever heard anyone describe Prickett as "tough" before -- because he wasn't. He was mainly known for his inability to hit a layup. That alone probably cost him 500 points during his long (seemed like 10 years) UK career. I did see him carried out of Kamikaze's more than once though lol. He was even soft when he was drunk.

I saw Prickett as a freshman play in a preseason game at Memorial Coliseum. I loved how hard he played that night and he quickly became my favorite player. He had 15 or 16 rebounds that night. Had he been healthy his junior year UK has one more natty.

Yeah, I loved JP.

The best way I can describe JP is WINNER.

Would not be intimidated and would dive all over the floor. I miss guys like that.

I'm curious what Jared did to cause you to think of him as more of a winner than so many other UK players since him? The highlight of his career was against Florida State in the NCAA tourney his freshman year. Everything after that was average at best. UK fans back then weren't very kind to Jared. What did you see that no one else saw?

You’re dead wrong. But I’m in a good mood, so I’ll just pretend you know more than I do.

Enjoy the rest of your night.
That's a cop out. Just answer the question. I attended a lot of UK games back then. I was on UK message boards back then. Jared was pretty popular as a frosh -- especially after that game against FSU. But it was pretty much downhill after that, expectation-wise. What were your thoughts at the time?

Yeah, he probably was his best as a Freshman.

I thought he was a really good rebounder and a solid defender. Offensively, he could really run the floor and was a good athlete. I will admit he couldn’t finish around the rim very effectively.

Still, he had a solid career. Really solid. His teams accomplished a lot. That’s what I remember about players.

It’s all good. I know you don’t like me. Not really sure why, but that’s ok. Just remember that I like you, and if you ever need anything, let me know. I like helping Kentucky fans.

Haha I'm good. This isn't middle school or Facebook. I just remember a different Kev69 (and the name you used before that). I've rarely posted since 2015, but I've been around here a long long time, bub. My apologies if you aren't *that* Kev69.

Different Kev69?

I’ve posted on here since 07

I’ve had season tickets for football for 25 years. Basketball for 38 years, and Women’s basketball for 9 years.

Not sure what you’re implying.

I thought there was a poster with that name who was exposed as a UNC fan. I guess I was wrong. I feel stupid now and, I apologize. If I was wrong ... yikes.

LOL.

There’s not a team I despise more than those cheating aholes in Chapel Hill.

Not Duke, not Louisville. This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen on here.

I hated North Carolina when Dean Smith was there.

He could put away a case of beer early in his college career, and that might have put him into some less than great spots, but I don’t remember anyone thinking he was a bad guy. But obviously one poster does. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I’ve also run across him some as an adult through his association with KBA and mutual friends. Always been nice to me.

My guess is he’s like most of us. Immature in College, and grew out of that.

I was a total dumbass in college. I still don’t know how I managed to get a Business Degree. I was a total idiot. I could drink a case of beer and still manage to stagger into class and function well enough.

Just stupid.

I remember how much promise he showed his freshman year but never really exceeded that. Was a good role player on some great teams. He looked like what you would think Opie Taylor would look like grown up as a 6'9 basketball player instead of turning into grownup Ron Howard.

He wasn’t a d*ck. Your posts are usually confusing but this one is just wrong. We’ve had a lot of players that were jerks...... Jared was nowhere near as bad as some of those guys.
I loved him as a player and probably wasn’t a dick at Rupp but on the weekends you sure didn’t want to have a good looking woman with you and run into him drunk. Lol. He tried his best twice to take mine home but failed as far as I know. Haha. Not that trying to pick up a girl makes one a bad guy, it’s just he done it while I had my arm around her. Lol. Alcohol sure is fun if you can control yourself. Haha

He was a really good player that's oft overlooked. He was my mom's favorite player by far so I remember him very well.

i can't believe no has mentioned him being the 1st of the big Pitino hyperbole guys. Pitino used to say he was the next Larry Bird. He had his moments as a player but never lived up to anywhere the hype he was given. Off the court Prickett was a bad drunk well into the 2000's when I was in Lexington. i remember had to be 05 or 06 because we were out with some of the football guys who graduated in 06 and Prickett came into wherever we were and he had to be mid 30's at that point acting like he was still big man on campus it was fairly comical.

Cool story bro

998 career points, but check out how many free throws he missed while here. Between free throws and lay ups, he would have given Issel a run for his money on the scoring title.
