Just arrived at Commonwealth Stadium for the football press conference, but here are a few notes from basketball. Should have transcripts later in the day.
-Much of the talk focused around Ben Simmons. Kenny Payne called him a unique player that would be difficult to defend. Said a few of the players had called the coaches asking to guard Simmons, but he didn't say who those players were. We do know for sure that Briscoe wasn't one of the players who called asking to guard Simmons. Briscoe didn't seem too interested in answering questions about Simmons and said that he'd leave the decision to the coaches as to who would guard Simmons.
-Payne said that Labissiere's confidence had dropped but called him a talented player. He said he hoped that he has a breakout game against LSU.
-Labissiere admitted that he had his confidence drop in recent weeks, but said he's "good now."
-Payne called Marcus Lee the most consistent big man the team has had so far this season. Called him a pleasant surprise.
-Payne was asked about playing on the road and he mentioned defense as being the main thing to focus on when playing away from home. Said he hoped something clicked defensively for the team against Ole Miss. Said they played great defense for about 32 minutes of the game.
