Hope you're right about the Celtics loving him and that he will start seeing more minutes. But, it's just hard for me to figure out the plan the Celtics are trying to implement. I know they are in full rebuild mode but some of the things they do just make you shake your head. Also, with the deals like the one with Prince's expiring contract, I'm thinking they are lining up to make some big off season free agent signings, any rumors about that in Boston? I've been a Celtics fan for many years but this current stage has me wondering.
I think Boston began the season with a genuine hope of making the playoffs in a blisteringly terrible eastern conference. A core of Rondo, Green, Turner, Smart, Sullinger and Bradley wasn't exceptional, but it was at least decent enough to consider getting a 7th or 8th seed in the east.
When it became apparent they weren't going anywhere, they began to make the appropriate moves, and stash draft picks.
They will likely have the following picks:
2015 their own lottery pick, presumably a top 10 pick.
2015 Clippers first round pick.
2016 Boston's own lottery pick.
2016 Dallas' first round pick - which will probably be in the 20s.
2016 New Jersey's first round pick (unprotected, and probably lottery at this point).
2016 Cleveland's first round pick (top 10 protected).
2017 Boston's own lottery pick.
2017 New Jersey's first round pick if it's higher than Boston's.
2018 Boston's own lottery pick.
2018 New Jersey's first round pick, unprotected, and probably lottery.
*Also receive 2nd round picks for 2015 and 2016 from Philadelphia 76ers.
*Also receive 2nd round picks for 2016 and 2017 from T'Wolves, unless Minnesota has a pick higher than 12 in the next two drafts, in which case it would go to Boston.
* Also have a $13 million dollar exception from the Rondo deal.
In short, Boston is probably going to have one lottery pick this year, and a pick in the 20s. They will likely have two lottery picks next year, and two other first round picks. They will have one pick in 2017 and in 2018, they could have two top 15 picks yet again.
They're likely looking at eight first round picks between 2015 and 2018, with four or five of those being lottery picks. Given that they already have a pretty young team, Boston's future with young players is most intriguing.
