Touched base with Maryland linebacker commitment Jamar Watson since he was the subject of a recent thread here. Tommy Mainord was his recruiter until UK parted ways with him.
When I touched base with Watson he indicated that Kentucky's staff has done a good job of picking up where Mainord left off.
"Coach (Andy) Buh and Coach Mainord came (for a home visit) right before (Mainord) got let go," Watson said. "And Buh, (D.J.) Eliot and (Mark) Stoops are coming again on January 14."
In other words, they're not leaving anything to chance because that's right around the time the dead period lifts.
I believe Watson will be at Kentucky the weekend of Jan. 22 but haven't confirmed that yet. Either way, when I asked if he's solid even minus Mainord on the staff he replied, "Yes sir."
