Jahlil Okafor - Jan. 19 vs. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach, CA) - Whitney Young (Chicago, IL): 6-11, 270, C, 2014 - Number 1 player in the 2014 class. Saw him play 3 games in the City of Palms Classic in December and remember that I didn't like the way he played so far (for a 270 pounder) from the hoop. Maybe that was because some of his competition was against heavier centers at that time. Does he like to mix it up? However, for this game against Long Beach Poly, which was surprisingly no contest, he played on the blocks most of the game. He was over-powering against a great leaper, but out-weighed, Jordan Bell (Oregon). Bell, a college PF, was just no match for the size and ability of Jahlil, even though Long Beach Poly was very physical against him. Not sure what kind of shape he is in, as he was playing with his mouth open as early as the 2nd quarter. Can't be easy pulling 270 pounds up and down the floor. I continue to think he holds the ball too long before doing something. But, hey, he's just a JR, right? Stats: 13-17 FG, 0-0 FT (really???), 7 R, 3 B, 2A.
