Jaden McDaniels commits to Washington.

Never to be heard from again. Oh well, if he really thinks Washington was the best basketball choice, then he was too stupid to come here anyway. I hope he has a fun year of college out on the Pacific coast! Beautiful campus.. Can’t beat the views.

Lets get EJ and Nick back and I’m excited for next year!

Wouldn’t surprise me if this saga isn’t over yet, but whatever he decides that’s on him. Won’t get much publicity in the lowly PAC-12. But it sounds like he may prefer that.

It sort of makes sense. We could have used him, but we are fine without him. He will have several years in the NBA where he will be away from home a lot. Might as well ease that transition by playing a year of college ball within driving distance from home.
He would have gotten more exposure here, and probably better prepared for playing in the NBA here, but he’ll get drafted in the first round regardless—unless he just completely botches in college. He’ll be fine, and UK will be more than fine.

Happens every year. Top player decides to go to a non-basketball power or weird school choice.

Trae Young to Oklahoma for example. I don’t think it hurt him per se but it didn’t elevate his stock at all.

Same here. I don’t know if it will hurt his stock but he definitely won’t get any better there in one year.

On a side note, looks like another kid that was smoke-screening UK. Maybe not. But then again, I’m the suspicious type.

Good for him. Honestly, it’s probably the better spot for him considering what has been said about his demeanor. Nice to see the replies from UK fans to his tweet appear to be respectful for a change. Curious to see what the staff does from here, especially with Richards and Montgomery still undecided. I hope they get Maker. Wouldn’t shock me to see something play out quickly like Juzang.

I mean hard to troll a kid who’s been really quiet. And he hasn’t really “misled” us really. So. Good luck to him. I just don’t think he will improve much there. And after reports of a sub par senior year? It might hurt his draft stock. We will have to see.

I wish him well. Just hope it was HIS decision.

I was hoping we’d get him. I couldn’t stand following his recruitment and dragging out his decision. In my opinion, Cal made a big impact on him and I think Mcdaniels really considered UK.
I think he made the wrong choice though draft wise and being a title contender.

Title contender yes, draft wise no, you can go anywhere and be drafted high, hell Washington just had a the most recent number one pick compared to all the other blue bloods

Wow if EJ or Nick don't come back we have a all guard and small forward lineup with the other than the grad student which is more a power forward..

......and now he doesn’t matter at all to me. He’s just a player on another team. Our Cats will be fine. Not worried at all - Cal will come through and field a Top 10 team, just like he always does.

Trae Young wasn't going 5th in the draft unless he went somewhere and was the center of the universe. He made a wise decision from an NBA perspective.

And Washington hasn't had problems getting players drafted high. They've had a problem fielding decent teams.

Who knows to what extent these kids delude themselves that they can win at Washington just like they could at UK or another power, but what the top recruits who go off-brand really give up is a viable opportunity to play deep into the NCAA Tournament. I can't think of a single case where a non-power school has managed a 1 year turnaround based on a stud freshman (or freshmen). The schools that have risen up this decade that were mostly off the radar last decade have done it by getting excellent college talent that the NBA isn't dying to draft after 1 year. Villanova, Virginia, Michigan, Wichita during their great run, and so on.

From an NBA perspective, I don't think many top recruits have been hurt by school choice, but you do have to wonder about players who seemingly put winning as a secondary consideration.
