Jack Givens

Goose is the best. Love listening to him on the radio. I moved away from Lexington ten years ago and listening to him has really meant a lot to me over the years. You can really hear how much he cares about the program and that means a lot to me.

My cousins and I met him in front of the Bridgestone Arena at the SECT a few years ago. He couldn't have been nicer. Talked with us and got a picture with him.

His son is married to my friends niece. IIRC Goose officiated the wedding.

Has anyone tried to get Goose to sign anything at UK games, either before or after the game? Bringing my wife to the S Carolina game in early Feb (her first trip to Rupp) and I have a 1978 KY Championship Sports Illustrated I would love for him to sign- thanks in advance
Years back in the Tourney in 2012 Louisville I ask him for a pic with me and he was really nice about it.

There should be a statue of Jack Givens in front of Rupp Arena.
He had a greater impact on the University of Kentucky than any other player in the history of UK basketball.
This should absolutely happen. I think that his freshman class really broke open our recruiting, in an area that we had really struggled up to that point in time. And Joe Hall worked awfully hard to break down these barriers.

Just be active about getting it signed. Goose doesn’t come up to the stands like Pope and players usually do because he’s stuck at that little broadcast table out on the court. Ushers work their way back and forth between the line of fans at the end of the court and Goose out there, bringing him stuff to sign and he’s very happy to sign it. But you have to know to go down there and position yourself in line/start vying for the ushers’ attention early. It’s not like this thing Pope does sometimes where he actually sticks around and makes sure everyone wanting his signature gets it.

The old school guys were different, NBA didn’t make generation changing money. Guys always stayed 4 years and they loved their school. Most kept in touch and around the program afterwards too. That is even up into the Tayshaun days.

I want Pope to crush it here so bad. I want him here 20 years and to unite every coaches players again. I want to see every coaches players roaming the games. Being involved in fundraising for NIl, and helping us anyway they can. I want them all to know how much they all mean to the fans and get cheered on once more.

I’m down, I want every important player Recognized here in some way. Now that he is a voice of the Wildcats too even more reason to do it. NC, owner of one of the greatest postseason games ever here.

I remember going to my first UK game ever and my uncle pointing out all the Wildcat legends to make sure I knew who they were. He was like that’s Dan Issel, and there is Louie Dampier. Over there is Sam Bowie, and right there is Kenny Sky Walker. I am so glad these guys are around games and can give advice and pass on the tradition of playing here to the current group of guys.

Met Goose at the 2017 SECT and he was incredibly nice and friendly. As Wildcat as they come.

Great guy. I was playing golf at Triple crown country club and saw him after my round. I was talking to him and he signed my score card.

Tom Leach wrote a book about Rich Brooks. I had tickets to the Ole Miss game in 2010 and the person who got me the tickets said he thought Brooks has seats in that same section. Well, before the game I got one of the blue coats to let me down to talk to Leach and Pratt and Leach signed my book. We talked for a bit, he was really nice and genuinely interested in having a conversation. We got to talking about farming and hauling square baled hay (he asked if I still did that). At half time I noticed Brooks sitting in the same row as me just 4 seats away. I talked to him a bit also and he signed my book too. While we were talking a guy walks up with a cap pulled down low and was waiting for our conversation to end. It was Randall Cobb. It was my greatest experience overall for a Kentucky basketball game in person.
