  1. He seemed to lay it on the line vs. UNC in the tournament. Question is this: Can he be developed into a serious contributor next year? His glaring weaknesses are footwork and general athleticism, rebounding is meh. I'd hate for him to be a diamond in the rough that was not polished. But you have to trust Kenny is gonna get it done with Hump.

"Rebounding is meh". You just lost all credibility with that statement. Humphries statistically is the 2nd best rebounder (behind Cousins) in Cal's 8 years at UK.

half of the starting centers in the NBA are euro born players. reason...ball skills and agility. two things hump does not have and wont.

If we miss on Bamba he will really have to step it up for us.That is if he doesn't leave of course.

:joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

You've got to be kidding me. So on the record youre saying Hump is a better rebounder than
Davis, Noel, KAT, Randle, WCS, Lyles, hell even Dakari. That's a good one guy

I heard today that he's waiting to see if Bam returns and that he won't be at UK next year if Bam indeed does return. I don't know why everyone keeps saying that he's waiting to see if we get Bamba, because as I've mentioned in previous posts Bamba WILL NOT play at the 5 in college. He's stated in several interviews that he is going to play the 4 in college and that he wants to go to a school that plans on helping him improve his skill level at the 4 in preparation for the NBA.

With that said, if Bam doesn't return I think Hump will actually start at the 5 and be a key component to making us a contender for the national championship. A) He'll be one of the better shooters on next year's team and we need shooters. B) His ability shoot will help open up driving lanes on offense as opponents bigs will have to move off the block to keep him from having wide open 12 foot shots. This will be welcomed by Green and Diallo who are slashers and also Bamba who will find himself in 1v1 scenarios if played right. C) With next year's team being full of shot blockers, he'll be our best rebounder due to the expected high number of altered missed shots by our opponents and the fact that our other bigs will be leaving their feet to challenge shots instead of staying stationary/focusing on blocking out like most of our players did this year. D) As with Willis, I think Humps biggest issue the past two year's has been being his own worst enemy and not believing in himself. I know it was just one game, but I think UNCheat was a huge confidence booster and his confidence will only continue to grow if he returns as next year's starter. In fact, I think Cal will give him a longer leash so to say which will allow him to relax and simply focus on playing not worrying about being yanked out of the game after his first mistake. E) He'll be our most experienced player on the team and will probably do more behind the scenes for our incoming players then we'll ever know. F) Besides Wynyard, he'll also be the only what I call "Big Butt" player on the team and will be huge in clearing opponents off the block on both ends of the court. F) For a Big he actually has decent hands/handles, which both Bam and Richards struggle with a lot. This will be huge in all facets of the game especially in transition, rebounding, and receiving the ball on the block without being stripped and finishing.

I could go on and on, but simply put I honestly feel that our chances at making a true run at 9 drop tremendously if Hump doesn't return. As I've mentioned in previous posts I feel the following starting line-up/bench gives us the best shot at winning 9. Hell, I'd change my screen name to Hump49 if I could.

Green/Alexander
Diallo/(Smith/Baker/Johnson. Hopefully we get one of them, preferably Johnson or Smith)
Vanderbilt/Gabriel/(Hopefully we get Knox and he and Vanderbilt can challenge each other all year for PT)
Bamba/Washington/SKJ
Hump/Richards/Wynyard

Go Big Blue!!!

Davis rebounded better but it's not the blowout you might think. I didn't bother to check Isaac vs. any other players because obviously this guy's numbers are way off wherever he got them. My numbers are from John Scott's bigbluehistory.net.

Hump
Minutes 525
Rebounds 162

.309 boards/minute

Davis
Minutes 1281
Rebounds 415

.324 boards/minute

Davis also played next to a guy named Tjones, he was a pretty good rebounder. Same goes for MKG.

Hump has played on a team with 0, I repeat, 0 post presence. And then this year with only bam, and he had to compete with Tai. Putting Hump and Davis in the same breath is blasphemous

He will not play much if we add Bamba and have Richards at center so I understand if he leaves if that happens. But I do think he will be an NBA center eventually as people forget he is very young . He was just the normal freshman age this season.
Who says he wants NBA?! Maybe play overseas Australia we're he is from! Make more money, then NBA "D" league

To me it's amazing that Jones has the 31st highest career total rebounds in all of Kentucky history having only played two seasons. He's right up there with really heavy hitters that stayed much longer. (And like you pointed out he was sharing opportunities with Josh Harrelson, MKG, and Anthony Davis.) And obviously his game was about a whole lot more than rebounding. He tends to get swept under the carpet due to both the NBA All-Star he played with and the constant march of new top-tier players every year who supposedly "play like him" although they never actually seal the deal there. I hope as time goes by he begins to get more of the appreciation he deserves.

If Bamba wants to primarily play the 4, where's all the forwards gonna play next year that we have on the roster? We have several 4s.

If he came, I watch and root...if I got paid, to worry where he plays on the team...different story...just saying
Who said anything about being worried where he plays? I'm just saying that we have a shitload of 4s next year, especially if Bamba plays the 4 here.

Well it's bc AD and MKG were the main reason for the title that year. It's not often you have two freshman who are that great come in and mesh so well into a unit. Jones played a big role and we might not win the champship without him. But don't worry that Team will go down in UK History and he will get his due along with Lamb. God I miss having him sit in that corner and bamg threes, his floater was underrated as well. Teague couldn't have been a bad PG that year, too much talent,

Is Josh Harrellson can become a vital and successful player to get a team to a Final Four then I believe anything is possible for Humphries.

After Harrellson's first two years here, no way anyone thought he'd do so well his senior year but it happened. Hope the same goes for Humph.

Harrelson tranformed his body to increase lateral quickness on pick n rolls, when BKnight improved his confidence and handle, we pick n rolled all the way to national championship game...A lil pick n pop too

Hump seems to have alot of upside plus experience , you never know how freshman are going to be..

I think Cal has been leaning toward a positionless team for a while now. With the right players, Bam, Bamba and the incoming freshmen bigs could interchange between the 3, 4 and 5. Not a bad situation at all.

I didn't see Humphries here. Maybe he had other obligations though.

Well........poop! The only three players not in attendance, including walk-ons, were Hump, Hawkins, and Willis. Hawkins and Willis were in Pikeville tonight for their autograph tour, so let's hope that Hump had a night class or was involved in a play on campus. I'm not one to read into the "tea leaves" too much, but it does seem odd that Hump is the only one not in attendance. In the end, I REALLY want him to return and, bash away, but if I had to choose between the two I would honestly prefer his skill set over Bam's with next year's team.

On the other side, Diallo being in attendance and still attending classes should finally lay to rest those who pessimistically feel he's still going to be the first 1/2 and done and at UK. With Diallo getting a head start, the depth we have at the 4/5, the solid incoming class, I feel we're going to better than I'd ever imagined next year and will more than likely finish the class off strong with Bamba, Johnson and Baker.

On a side note, Lol at the inadvertent mic drop at the end of the video of Cal addressing the crowd in attendance at tonight's preview of his 30 for 30 special. Maybe he knows who's staying and who's going to commit and the mic drop wasn't inadvertent, but more of a planned Swaggy Cal move.

Go Big Blue!!!

If I remember correctly Karl Towns wanted to play the 4 in collage. Of course I could be wrong on that.

I think he could be though.
That is the great thing about opinion, we all have one.

Karnewski of Gonzaga is not an NBA player and he is much better than Hump. Some players are simply what they are, good college players or role players, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. i just do not see what he offers in terms of an NBA player.
