With the preseason hype, it is an easy yes.
2 agree 100%, but the hype was not justified. We might be a top 25 football team, but I’m not sure. We are a decent team, but certainly nowhere near an excellent team. Too many deficiencies.

No the expectations of some fans were completely unjustified and flat wrong.

Oline last year struggled especially in pass blocking last year. It was pretty obvious the new players and those returning were not Blue Wall caliper.

The hiring of Scan was an obvious error a quick review of Wikipedia page shows nothing but failure and broken young QBs. He was asked to leave Denver and he nearly ended Jimmy G. Not sure how Stoops didn’t see it.

UT was clearly on the rise when they took us to the woodshed last year. They clearly moved past us. Easy L to predict - especially coming after a bye week.

We hardly ever win on the road in Mississippi, so that loss didn’t surprise though we had our chances. Stoops always loses one game he shouldn’t. See Vandy. I always add one to the loss column when predicting Stoops. Plus, we had the Levis injury loss to USC.

Lastly, fans misinterpreted the Levis hype. It’s all about his development potential after UK, not his current capabilities. While he’s pretty darn good, he still needs time to mature and improve. He needs to spend multiple seasons under one OC/QB coach. He’s had 3 in 3 years counting Penn St - which is never a good thing.

If you have lived through the last 60 years of UK football then this season is not even close.
I have lived through the last 60 plus years of UK football. The expectations for this year’s football team were higher than ever. Even this board was heavily populated with predictions about winning the SEC East, going 10-2 and maybe 11–1 during the regular sEason. I’ve been disappointed many times as regards my preseason expectations for UK football success to the point I stopped allowing myself to have any expectations. This year, based on recent football success and who we had coming back along with the super talented freshmen, I really thought this would be a special year.

So why make a poll if you are just going to argue with opinions that aren't the same as yours?

Maaybe

I thought the 20 season was pretty bad and would never be beat, but 22 may have proved me wrong

20 was on the players

22 is an all around

As for me based on preseason expectations, who saw my first UK football game in 1959, the answer is unquestionably, YES
This has been a disappointing season. But, the MOST DISAPPOINTING season of a lifetime? You have got to be kidding. Very short memory there, man. Very short.

Due to expectation yes I’d say so. The 2007 team should have been better than 7-5, too.
2007 is the most disappointing. Gave two of the most iconic moments since I’ve watched but were way too talented to have lost five games.

That was a top 10 team at one point.

Why? Going into the season the expectations weren’t winning the sec east or coming close. If this isn’t the most disappointing season then idk wtf to tell you. Never have expectations been so high then we lose to a vandy team that hadn’t won and sec game in what 25 tries. Lmao!
I agree. The 2007 team didn't have the hype or respect in the pre-season that this team had. We didn't get noticed until we beat UofL in the opener. We lost some heartbreakers that year to go along with beating the #1 team(LSU).

But with a Top 5 NFL QB, an NFL RB, the most talented receiving corps since 2007 and a defense that was returning enough veterans sprinkled with talented young guys to be great, I, with a lot of national media, thought we could ACTUALLY contend for the SEC East.

We FAILED miserably. SAD

Well, many will admit that Coach Stoops has caused us to raise our expectations. Been a fan longer than most on this board, and believe me, most years before him didn't leave room for much disappointment with regard to expectations.

Apparently, you failed to notice this is a message board where contrary opinions are offered, expected and solicited. Creating a poll doesn’t change this reality. People do have different opinions you know. A poll helps to draws out differing opinions which was my intent. Then we can discuss our respective opinions. It is my personal opinion that because fan expectations (mine) were higher than ever for an unusually good year prior to the start of the season , that the football team’s performance, or lack thereof this season is the most disappointing (to me). Obviously, people are free to disagree. I’m interested in what they have to say. In this particular response I was responding to a post from Kycat 78 that opined this season, disappointment wise, was not even close to being the most disappointing season in the last 60 years. That’s his opinion. I simply disagreed with it. UK has, to be sure, had many worse years where it didn’t win 6 games but in terms of “disappointment” this was the worst for me because expectations for a super year were so high and not realized

Several of us " old timer" UK fans TRIED to temper expectations for this year, but irrational exuberance from some of the "experts" shouted us down when we warned about several red flags.
1. O line was terrible in the bowl game and OT was unwatchable.
2. We lost O line coach AND the only decent LT in the portal, Tyler Steen, to Bama.
3. We lost 3 starters from the O line and 2 back up that were expected to return and play to graduation/NFL
4. We lost the best OC that we have had in 50 years to the rams.
5. We lost one of our best recruiters and top DB coach when Clinkscale went to Michigan.
6. We lost our top recruiter in the south and our Game time Energy leader/best LB coach when Jon Sumrall took HC job at Troy.
7. We lost our top DB to injury preseason when Geiger went down.
8. We lost our second best DB or maybe best big playmaker preseason when Tisdale went down with injury.
9. Stoops got a divorce. Focus, focus, focus.
10. The top returning RB in the SEC gets sidelined first 4 games waiting on NCAA to rule on his eligibility over something that wasn't an NCAA rule, evidently.

There are others and I could go on, but anyone who could not see 7-5 or 6-6 for this team just wasn't looking at reality of the issues stacked up against this team..

And that was BEFORE we lost out 2 starting LB, our #1 RB coming out of fall camp, etc., etc.

It looks like this team was cursed from the getgo.
So, No. Not the most disappointed. Disappointing for sure, but not totally unexpected.

I remember going into the last game of the season praying for a win just to go bowling. I remember it being mathematically impossible to make a bowl game after just 9 games.... was this season disappointing? Absolutely. Are we going to a really good bowl game like the Citrus? no. But most disappointing ever? Not even close.

2010 was similar in pain. We are 3-0, lose the expected game to Florida, but then lay an egg at Ole Miss with two fumbles inside the 10. Then, come within a wisker of beating national champ Auburn, get up and win a beauty over South Carolina and the Ol Ball Coach, then throw a wrench into our season by getting down early to a beatable Georgia team, lose to Miss St which we again threw a clunker, and then to wrap up the regurg, lose at UT. We are up seven and about to score again and Locke fumbles at the goal line. Choke city.

Yes, I should have clarified and emphasized in the poll question, “based on preseason expectations is this the most disappointing season of your lifetime?“. I really thought based on who we had coming back, a projected first round or even first pick in the NFL draft quarterback, one of the best running backs in the nation, an outstanding receiving corps and more purported depth of talent than UK has had in years that, UK had a legitimate shot for a special season, (10-2 , 11-1 in regular season play). Maybe I misperceived our talent level but expectations are expectations and I allowed myself, for the first time I’m decades, to have expectations for an outstanding year when it came to UK football.

While I understand the point, this is the first year I ever experienced having high expectations as a UK fan.

Yes it's disappointing but also some context is important. OL has struggled, QB is injured and play is inconsistent, and every sec team on our schedule played their best game of the year (except Georgia).

Stoops is at his best motivating his team when they're the underdog. This year was a different animal because we were just as hunted as most of the teams in the sec. Stoops needs to find a way to motivate while prospering, which is something he really lacks so far.

So yes I am disappointed considering expectations. But I can sure get used to having such lofty expectations when I spent most of my life praying for 6 wins, knowing we'd be embarrassed most every non vandy sec game

Good points. I agree. Until they put my ashes in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, I can live with bowl eligible seasons, 6 wins. I’m greatly disappointed this year but I’ve suffered through enough bad football seasons to appreciate the context of simply winning 6 or more games a year which has only happened 37.5% of the time since I was born in 1950. .
