Is It Possible, Even Likely, That Kansas Gets Completely Shut Out In This Recruiting Class??

I know they are considered up there for Josh Jackson and PERHAPS Bolden, but neither is a sure thing. Looking at the elite guys, who are they favored to get?

Thanks, Darryl

There aren't enough spots for top players to only go to Duke and UK so some of the players that don't have Kansas might pick them up later if they don't have commit early enough. I don't think Cal will play a waiting game for a majority of this class so if a player wants to come here, they will need to commit earlier than in the past.

It's definitely nice that both of our programs are ahead of the pack when it comes to signing elite talent these days.

So you are genuinely happy for UK to be in that position? I call bullshit.
K has been able to get lots of guards to come through Duke to flop and flail around the court. Will be a tragedy if Tatum and crew follow suit.

I'm happy Duke is on the same level since UK was so far ahead of every other team in terms of landing elite talent for several years after Calipari came on. Not to mention, I think UK firing on all cylinders on the recruiting trail challenged Coach K and his staff to up their game.

And I'm happy it's UK instead of UNC.

No way dude! They got all those bread wrappers, errr Helms Banners. One look at those and every recruit is gonna want to be a Jayhawk. I expect Kansas to start Platooning any time.

Sorry, I'd post more but I think I'm gonna be sick.

I can't see us being shutout but things don't look incredibly bright right now. Things can change though quickly in recruiting and what looks bleak one month may look bright the next. In 2014 we weren't sure who we were going to sign entering October because everyone had Okafor and Jones to Duke, Oubre to UK, and Alexander to Illinois. Last year we felt good about where we stupid but not overy confident about our recruits.

It may be our class comes together because of the #s game at UK and Duke.

A lot of people think KU leads for Bolden but they can see him definitely picking Duke or Alabama making a hard run at him. Not sure where he stands on the priority list for UK. Still I think he chooses KU because of questionable playing time available at Duke and if his interest with Alabama was going to be strong it would have been strong already over the summer like Ferguson.

Hoping we can make things interesting for Fox. UK and KU seems like the 2 out ahead with UK leading possibly by a wide margin.

Hoping the #s game pushes Alkins away from UK. Hoping Fultz commits to UK soon so that it deters Alkins from UK. I'm hoping we can make a serious run at Alkins and get a visit and possibly sign him.

Seems we're top 3 with Josh Jackson. Appears we'll definitely get a visit before he decides. Will be interesting to see if the Under Armor connection pushes him to Maryland.

We're making a hard run at Udoka Azubuike. Hoping we can steal him from FSU. Seems there's strong mutual interest but may be tough to get.

I think we'll get one, maybe 2 players who can be impactful as freshman. The rest of the class I think will be 3-4 year guys and if they have a impact as freshman it will be a pleasant surprise.

Thanks for your info.

I've read a few posts from KU guys saying they are okay with missing on guys in this class because they will have so much coming back. While I understand that line of thinking, my only thought is this is a heck of a class strike out on.

Not worried about KU's recruits, sure they will get a few guys out West. But they don't seem like they a huge competition for us maybe a guy here and there.

I think they will get Jackson and Bolden to plug in for Diallo and Selden.

Mason, Graham, Jackson, Bragg, and Bolden will probably start for them next season.

Selden isn't going anywhere. He represents another Kansas bust.

Possibly. Has shown talent but his consistency sucks. Some players just don't figure it out until they're upperclassmen. Also some players jump even if they are busts, including juniors. I don't see him jumping either though unless it just clicks with him and he averages something similar to what he did in Korea.

The players we'll probably have coming back would make it easier to miss on several prospects in this class but I'm hoping we sign an immediate difference maker or 2. The rest of the class be 2nd and 3rd tier players who can step in as sophomores and juniors.

Self usually does well late. There are always decommits and other developments.

***Huh, that's weird.....I've heard MANY say that this (2016) is VERY MUCH a down class outside of some of the SGs (guys like Monk, Alkins, Simmons, Ferguson) & Wings - especially at the very top in Josh Jackson & Tatum.

A TON are saying - LOOK OUT for the 2017 Class with the likes of Ayton, Troy Brown, Porter, etc.

Most feel the 2016 class is strong at the top but what makes it special is its a very deep class. Similar to the 2004 and 2007 classes.

The 2017 class is very strong at the top but not considered to be very deep.

***Not if he plays like he did at the WUGs. Yes, that's an "if", but he was pretty amazing in those Games.

Fran Fraschilla said the competition was not that great at the WUG, I didn't see the games so maybe others know.

***Weird - could've SWORN I'd heard the EXACT OPPOSITE....many have said that a Bolden ranked 14th in Rivals right now would in say '17 or '15 have ranked closer to 25th - 30th. Most I've heard think that it's got a very solid top 9 or so (Josh Jackson, Tatum, Giles, Maker, Smith Jr., Fox, Adebayo, Ball & Monk) and then drops off like a cliff after that.

****German & Russian teams were pretty good but otherwise pretty lackluster competition otherwise.

KU was without Devonte Graham, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, Brannen Greene & Cheick Diallo though.......were able to add SMU's Nic Moore & Florida Gulf Coast's Julian DeBose for Graham & Greene though (the two added made sense with the approval of ex-KU coach Larry Brown at SMU & ex-KU Assistant Joe Dooley at FGCU).

Fran Fraschilla said the competition was not that great at the WUG, I didn't see the games so maybe others know.

The best teams in the WUGs probably ranged from a very good mid-major school to a middle of the pack high major conference team. Weren't elite but the competition was solid. If we were playing teams comparable to the top of college basketball we probably would have struggled considering we were missing the middle of our roster.

I've read a couple of recruiting guys state that it's the best since '07.

2016 is weak when it comes to bigs, but very strong and deep when it comes to guards and wings.

***I think this would be accurate. '15 was pretty solid with bigs by comparison but much, much weaker w/ PGs where there was Tyus and noone else of any consequence at Point really.

************************ Huh? What? WEIRD... wow.....HMMMMMM

I'm glad you don't post here often, it's like bringing BLUeBaLLs back again.. that guy was tough to read.

If they do, you can bet there won't be any "Is Self losing his recruiting mojo?" stories out from the pro-Self media.

Kansas may see a backlash year, and get a taste of what we saw last Spring with guys choosing lesser programs over a blue blood.

The fact is - Kelly Oubre - who was (or should have been) a Top 5 caliber talent started very slow, got a lot of bad pub early, and ended up being drafted just outside the lottery. Cliff Alexander - nuff said. You can't underperform with your only two OAD caliber talents in one year without some backlash.

Plus, they do have a lot of guys projected to return at certain positions, so are subject to poaching from programs like Bama. The fact as well is that - thanks to the SEC Network - a school like Bama can probably offer more TV exposure than Kansas, amazingly enough.

Well that's not true considering KU plays probably 2/3 of their games between the 3 main sports channels for college basketball CBS, ESPN, and ESPN2.

Doesn't sound too good with KU for Bolden. Article today on another site he said he'll visit other schools. Article though sounds like he's dead set on Duke or UK.

The 2016 class is being called one of the best guard classes ever. The 2017 class has a lot of great big men.
