Interesting (to me) article about a possible future of NIL.

TLDR version: Former Colorado U staffer tried to get NIL funding from a Saudi Arabian public fund. This group owns part or all of some international soccer teams and tried to buy Formula One, professional tennis, and the PGA. The fund is said to exceed $1 trillion.

It was once said (paraphrased) that "college football has a draft. And Nick Saban gets the first 20 picks."
The Saudi deal could blow Saban's out of the water.

Also, how would the universities spin the partnership considering Saudi Arabia's record on human rights, inclusion, etc.

Sounds like UK would be cooked you think Mitch would allow all that dirty money into the university?

Anyways sad state of affairs regardless.

In my mind the only way to stop it is for the powers that be to get their heads our of their asses and take a long hard look at what made them want it in the first place.

If a school makes real money off a kid's name, image, or likeness, then---after the fact---the school needs to pay a fair percentage of that money to the kid. Nothing unfair to any kid in that. And it doesn't need to affect recruiting because......

SURPRISE!!!! ....schools have never been allowed to make money off recruits' names, images, or likenesses. Still aren't, as a matter of fact.

NIL at its heart is neither a silly idea nor an idea that needs to hurt college basketball in the slightest.

It's just that it's been implemented in the most greedy, negligent, backasswards way possible.

I watch golf on TV, but never LIV Saudi funded golf. For their human rights record. for most of 9/11 terrorits were Saudi's. Some seem to have no problem with it. Including certain political candidates.

I agree on the issues from Saudi Arabia but seems people have no issues taking money/buying from Nike when they have been accessed of using child labor, sweatshops, sexual harassment, gender discrimination etc for a while.

This will be the end of fans even caring, honestly. And the courts are blocking the deal the NCAA was trying to make with athletes to keep the collective cash rolling in, which IS a regulation needed for competitive balance. The courts are basically refusing to let the NCAA build a NIL model that will create a level playing field. It is ridiculous.

I like LIV golf. I like Bryson D. I like PGA golf too

It's getting insane.

You can't stop it now that it's out of the bag.

The only modification I'd love to see is this: only allow one instant transfer. After that, make them sit out a year.
This.

The ability to transfer and play right away allows for the free agency aspect of CBB. If you had to sit a year (even if they got 1 free transfer), it wouldn't be nearly as crazy.
