Just was talking to a buddy of mine who coaches high school basketball. He had an interesting take on his dissection of the game.
Here is his point:
Wisconsin has a fairly decent defensive efficiency rating, but its very deceiving. He said they have to defend 15-25 less possessions a game, so the numbers are inflated. He said they do it by controlling tempo on the offensive side of the floor and for the most part they haven't played many above average defensive teams....and UK is a beast of their own defensively. He said Wisconsin's game plan may backfire because when you limit the number of possessions, you increase the value of each possession. Think of it as a football game. You may possess the ball twice as long, but it doesn't matter if you don't score. Essentially, it make it to where b2b stops are even more valuable. He isn't a UK fan, and he said he just doesn't think Wisconsin will be able to get enough stops at a high rate to match UK. He said Dekker and Kaminski went off against Arizona and UNC, and were lucky to win both games (especially UNC). He said the 8-10 minute mark in the 2nd half is where it will change. He said he thinks it will be pretty close up until that point, but he said UK's depth will kick in and defensive stops....resulting in a 10-14 point win. He said the Player of the Game will be Ulis...said Wisconsin wont be able to keep us out of the lane.
I hope he is right!
