Interesting list of schools interested in Perry!

If this list is indeed true, very interesting:

“Showed interest” per agent…..lol. Like we don’t know how these things work.

Agent: hey Coach Cal, my boy TP is in the portal, can we use your name that you are interested.
Cal : sure. I do this all the time to help

they should listed also Rupp rafters as interested party.

"treated one of our own poorly" feels strong.

The kid struggled. It's ok to talk about it. I'm sure some people were over the top. But that has nothing to do with why the kid is leaving.

He wants to play. He wants more NIL. I'm never going to believe he even reads Rafters, let alone what BigBlueTed writes on here (no offense if there is an actual BigBlueTed, I just made that up).
100% correct if you ask me. EVERY SINGLE FANBASE has "that" section that is over the top. BBN is huge, so our "that" section is greater. TP struggled, and that's okay. Partly because he wasn't able to defend, and partly because he was pressed into a role he wasn't ready for (PG). I don't think ANYONE could fault his effort, and that's really all that matters.

You know there's another narrative that no one's discussing here yet but I think is actually a strong possibility at Perry's age and in his place.

In these Wild West NIL days, I could totally see Perry imagining that he could go to some place like Ole Miss for a year, blow up there, and then come back here with Pope offering a much higher level of involvement since he'd "proved himself." Pope doesn't guarantee minutes but he does get real specific with people about how he wants to use them, so that scenario isn't even all that unrealistic.

I think the chances of that really happening are lower than the chances that Perry is secretly hoping it could really happen. But never say never. As long as he stays away from Arkansas, Louisville, and UT I wouldn't write it off.

I think it will take time, but yes, I think he can be very good
I think he could turn into a solid college player, but I don’t see it happening next year if he goes to one of these bigger name schools. I think he’s still fighting for minutes, especially in the SEC. Every single coach got wide eyed when he entered and had everything go right at him.

I’m actually very surprised to see no ACC teams on that list (outside of ul), I think he could do well in the ACC over time.

The family seems to disagree. They were liking social media comments that said that Perry was mistreated by people in the fanbase but you can believe what you want to. We go overboard in bashing players for no good reason
No offense but if I am a parent of a UK player I am staying off this board or all social media because I know what happens there. And if they think we are cruel just wait until it's a fanbase in a state where he isn't the all time leading scorer. They will be even more cruel in their criticism.

I don’t know if he was treated poorly or if believes he was.

He definitely struggled to adjust. But I believe he could have been a contributor here and I wish he would stay.

Murray would be a natural fit for him but maybe he wants to prove this stage wasn’t too big?

I hope he succeeds wherever he ends up.

Yeah, I'd really trust the agents on this one. Dude gets paid by landing the biggest deal. He's gonna list any and every school he can for leverage.

Or any other school for that matter. If you don't play well fans of that school will say negative things but that's just the way it is.
I was in the middle of editing my comment to include the part about other schools when you quoted me but yes you are 100% correct that it will be worse at UT, Ole Miss or Arkansas because he isn't from those places. He probably got more slack, being from here, than anyone else would have.

I wish the kid the best but not when they play us. Hopefully, he becomes the player I think he can be and returns back to BBN someday.

He's been home every weekend for a while, so I'm sure he's been torn on what he should do. Right now, if I had to guess I say he will be transferring to Ole Miss. Some of the schools that have contacted him are offering more money and playing time, He wants to play more and I'm sure he will get more playing time wherever he goes. I wish he would have stayed but he did what he thought was best for him.

This is the biggest head scratcher to me with the emphasis that Beard puts on defense.

Or the people that were dogging this kid for the last nine months are a joke.

He’s likely to go to Ole Miss and become the next Sean Pedulia. But I guess Chris Beard is just lying when he gushes over him all the time.

Let’s face it BBN. We treated one of our own poorly and now he’s getting recruited by half of our conference.
I disagree completely. I think if anyone wants a narrative that a fanbase doesn't like them they just claim "Well I looked on social media and saw bad comments". That is true of anyone in any position that has enough attention to warrant any type of talk at all. It's 2025 and people put their thought out on the web constantly and without thought.

Perry and his family of all people should know how badly UK and the fans want to win, and if they want to try and use the fans as a reason they decided to portal then shame on them.

Folks can laugh now but Perry is exactly the type of kid who will make some hustle plays and get a couple of big buckets for some squad in the post season as a jr and sr.

Whether or not he becomes a star or starter, only time will tell.

I can see him becoming one of those annoying effort kids who sticks out because he doesn’t look or move like everyone else on the floor. But he’s on the floor and a bigger better athlete and team has no answer.

We see em all the time. Most recent that comes to mind is ole dude from Clemson that got every rebound and some easy second chance points.

Did your account get hacked? You’re normally a very rational, level-headed poster. Fake outrage is all the rage these days… you gotta call BS when you see it.

I would also add that Chris Beard gushed over Devin Askew. FWIW.

Yup. About half of this board ruthlessly bashed Perry and then make the shocked Pikachu face when he transfered. I'm not saying they were the reason he left but they didn't help. A lot of our fans have zero patience and expect every player to be NBA all stars as freshmen. Perry was a typical freshman player. He isn't nearly as terrible as folks here make him out to be and it looks like a lot of other programs out there agree with that.

No I’m not outraged. I am sad because I wanted to keep Perry. You’re right that I should have chosen different words. It probably wasn’t the right way to communicate it

I agree totally he could be a Cameron Mills type guy so why go to another school? He is not going to be the man anywhere.

He got thrown out before he was ready and I think the expectations were far too high for where he was development wise

Oh that's pure BS. I saw more mean stuff about Garrison but he's not crying and leaving.

This is just me, I'm in my late 50s now but I was born in Kentucky and been a fan my entire life. I would rather be a walk on or water boy or the 15 th player on the bench for Kentucky than to be an All American anywhere else. Wearing the Kentucky jersey is worth more than NIL from another team to me.
Maybe, but you don't work on becoming the all-time leading scorer in the state only to become that 15th player on the bench.

You don't know why?
No I don’t. He was a true freshman that we had to throw in the fire. It’s far too early to make judgements about what he can or can’t do in his career. There are plenty of players with Perry’s profile that are good in high major college basketball.

I’m sorry but this is a gross exaggeration. Bashed him how? By pointing out the kid was constantly victimized on defense? That’s just the truth. If anybody said they didn’t want him on the team, I didn’t see it. What I DID see a lot of were people saying he needed to spend the offseason getting quicker.

Agent probably advised him to enter the portal so that they could take the highest offer to UK to match it. It's no different than people wanting a raise from their current employer, interviewing at other places to get a higher offer, and then asking your current employer to match the offer.

I think that’s what most expected out of Perry. A guy who could contribute his jr/sr year. He was never going light it up as a frosh and I’d expect he has the same issues as a soph. He’s your typical college player who develops over time. I wish we saw it here, but I get he wants to play right now. Just hope he makes a smart/logical decision for his next stop.

That could be the strategy?

Maybe he stays at UK?

Arkansas and Louisville are definitely surprising. I think he needs to go to a school like Murray State, which should have a good team coming in this season. Though, if the big schools are offering him more money and potential playing time, it may be too good to pass up. All I know is that our guards coming in will eat him alive if he plays against us.

He'd be best suited for a school thst plays a lot of zone. Use him like Gonzaga used Kyle Wiltjer.

I agree with this on the defensive end. Lyon County played zone (including a wicked zone press) maybe 90% of the time. There is no doubt in my mind that Perry always knew he had work to do to be a serviceable defender man to man; but hey, just a true freshman, plenty of time to watch and learn and develop those skills, correct? But then Kriisa and Butler went down, and Perry was a starter trying his best to guard the likes of Sears and Zeigler man to man in the brutal SEC.

On offense, however, Perry at point guard was playing out of position pure and simple. He had never been a ball dominant table setter. On the contrary, the focus of the Lyon County offense was for Perry to move and cut tirelessly WITHOUT the ball until a screening action got him open and a teammate delivered the pass for a deadeye shot attempt. My guess is he wants to find a school where he can be himself and utilize his proven skillset to be successful, not be a square peg in a round hole.
