Coach Popes post game presser seemed to deflect away from giving any information when asked. I thought he mentioned having transparency with the program in his opening speech day one. Cal hadn’t seen his injured players to give updates.

No he didn’t. He specifically told you “I don’t think I can say. It’s Lamont’s stuff”….aka the individual has medical privacy rights.
I know fans want to know every little detail and I admit it can be frustrating, but it’s really none of our business on injuries.
how transparent must it be for him when it comes to injuries? Respecting one's medical privacy is much more than just smart and wise. iT'S THE RIGHT WAY TO BE. I am fine with him and everything he's done to this point. I could ask questions on why he has done some things, but by and large, he knows what he is doing and knows his faults and flaws better than I ever would as coach.
I hope Kentucky fans can put a little more understanding in the circumstances in totality of this season before being too harsh , critical , or negative towards Coach Mark Pope. He sure doesn't deserve some of the things that have already been said.
Popes been doing an amazing job. Dudes been lights out from day one. Only thing I need to see from him is recruiting. If he can get that where it needs to be, he will win big. That’s no certainty though. I believe he will.
I am not saying he hasn’t had some head scratchers in terms of rotations, decisions, in game adjustments/lack of - that’s going to happen to all coaches. But he’s done an awesome job across the board. In general, he knows what he’s doing and he’s doing it very well under the circumstances.

When they were amateurs, I didn’t have a problem with the lack of transparency. Now that they are paid professionals, I feel it’s a little silly. I understand privacy rights, but it’s not like Butler has testicular cancer. He’s not having his gender re-assigned. He has a SPORTS INJURY that was caused by playing basketball. What is the harm in saying “Lamont has a torn labrum that will require surgery” ? Is Pope thinking that just coming out and saying it will potentially hurt our seeding or something?
HIPPA privacy law went into effect April 2003 but began in 1996..and morphed into what it is. I don't think we've had the kinds of injury updates since then, that we'd like to get. Doesn't matter because it's law now and has been for a long time. It could be disclosed but 1st amendment rights would pre-empt contract terms and leave universities in tons of lawsuits. It is what it is.

There is transparency, but then there are also LEGAL restrictions as to how transparent you can be about someone's medical information.
These guys are fricken pros, not amateurs. There should be a detailed injury report with full transparency.

It’s Lamont Butler’s news to tell. Not Coach Pope. Just as if you had an injury or illness. If you want to tell the world, go ahead. But your boss has no business telling anyone.
While it could just be a nature of the injury thing, I don’t think it’s crazy to give a very rough expectation of return.
“Lamont’s dealing with a shoulder thing. Trying to let it heal on its own, he’s working every day rehabbing it. Hopefully he’s in a place to give it a go within the next few weeks.”
That doesn’t sound like too much to ask for. The timing of return component has been no better under Pope and honestly I did expect it to be.
